Ambassador Flamelash

Ambassador Flamelash is a flamewaker, one of Ragnaros's own servants, who represents the Firelord among the Dark Iron dwarves in Blackrock Depths. He guards the Chamber of Enchantment, a hall beyond the Grim Guzzler, and grows stronger as fire spirits rush in to feed him. For many players he was their first look at the flamewakers they would later fight in the Molten Core.

Background

Flamelash serves Sulfuron Harbinger, Ragnaros's herald in the Molten Core. The game's later Adventure Guide says he earned the post of ambassador to the Dark Iron clan through long and loyal service to the Firelord. He despised the dwarves at first, but came to respect their love of destruction. As a sign of that bond he guards the Chamber of Enchantment, a sacred room where the Dark Iron Dwarves empower their weapons.

The chamber lies in Shadowforge City past the Grim Guzzler and leads on to the Mold Foundry. Flamelash fights with the [Flame Wrath], a burning polearm he can drop.

Abilities

  • Burning Spirits: during the fight, Burning Spirits appear at the seven Flame Runes around the edge of the chamber and drift toward him. Each one that reaches him sacrifices itself and gives him a stack of Burning Spirit, which makes him 5% stronger and 5% larger, up to 50 stacks.
  • Fire Blast: 185 to 215 fire damage to players he hits in melee.

Strategy

The fight is a race against the spirits. A tank holds Flamelash, while one or two players with area damage, a mage or a warlock, or a hunter and a rogue picking them off, kill the Burning Spirits before they reach him. The spirits are weak and die fast. Let them through and he snowballs, since each one makes him hit harder. Groups can also choose to ignore the spirits and burn him down as fast as possible, accepting that he gets stronger as the fight goes on; this works for groups that can kill him quickly.

Everyone should stay inside the chamber. If a group member stands outside it during the fight, Flamelash summons elite fire elementals instead of the weak spirits, which can turn an easy fight into a wipe. The fight itself is optional: the large platform is mostly empty and the door onward is already open, so groups that don't want his loot can walk past.

Loot

From our database (patch 1.12):

Item Chance
[Burst of Knowledge] 25%
[Cape of the Fire Salamander] 25%
[Molten Fists] 25%
[Flame Wrath] 25%
[Circle of Flame] 2%
[Essence of the Elements] 1.6%

The [Burst of Knowledge] is a caster trinket that, when used, cuts the mana cost of spells for a short time. The [Circle of Flame] is a rare epic cloth hat that turns its wearer's health into mana. The [Flame Wrath], his own polearm, can wrap its wielder in a fire shield and blast nearby enemies with a ring of fire.

Quests

No quest asks for Flamelash's death. He is one of several bosses who can drop the [Essence of the Elements] for Shadowmage Vivian Lagrave's quest The Last Element.

Later history

During the Elemental Unrest event before Cataclysm, Flamelash came back to the same chamber as Grand Ambassador Flamelash, one of four lieutenants of the Twilight's Hammer leader Cho'gall, and players were sent to defeat him again.
