Anduin Wrynn

Anduin Wrynn is the son of King Varian Wrynn and, in Classic, the boy king of Stormwind. With his father missing, the roughly ten-year-old Anduin sits on the throne while Bolvar Fordragon governs as regent and the disguised dragon Onyxia whispers in the court's ear. He grows up to be a priest, a peacemaker and eventually the ruling King of Stormwind.
Biography
Anduin is the only child of Varian Wrynn and Queen Tiffin. He is named after Anduin Lothar, the Regent Lord of Stormwind who led the Alliance in the Second War and who had protected Varian as a boy. Tiffin was killed by a thrown rock while trying to calm a riot in Stormwind, a riot that grew out of the city's refusal to pay the Stonemasons' Guild for rebuilding Stormwind. Those unpaid masons became the Defias Brotherhood under Edwin VanCleef.
When Varian disappeared on his way to a meeting with Jaina Proudmoore in Theramore, the court crowned Anduin so the kingdom would not be left without a monarch. The idea came from the royal advisor Lady Katrana Prestor, who was Onyxia in disguise. A child king suited her: real power sat with Bolvar, and Bolvar was under her spell.
In World of Warcraft
Anduin Wrynn stands in the throne room of Stormwind Keep. His title is "King of Stormwind," but he is a level 5 non-combat character with only 102 health, and he gives no quests. Players who come to the keep to report on the Defias, as in An Audience with the King, find that the king they were sent to see is away "on a diplomatic mission," and the report is accepted by Lady Katrana Prestor instead. Next to Anduin stand Highlord Bolvar Fordragon and Lady Prestor, who between them start several of the Alliance's level 54-60 story quests.

Anduin's presence is a quiet part of the Varian Wrynn mystery. The quests never let the boy speak about his father, and a player who knows the later story can see how isolated he is, surrounded by a regent who means well and a dragon who does not.
Later history
The World of Warcraft comic series (2007-2009) gives Anduin a bigger role in the Classic-era story. He suspects that something is wrong with Lady Prestor and his worries lead Magni Bronzebeard to enlist Bolvar and Marshal Reginald Windsor in a secret investigation. When Varian finally returns, Onyxia seizes Anduin and carries him off to Onyxia's Lair, where his father rescues him.

Varian returns to the throne in patch 3.0 (2008), and Anduin then:
- studies the Light with the draenei prophet Velen and becomes a priest;
- argues for peace with the Horde in Mists of Pandaria (2012), and is badly hurt trying to stop Garrosh Hellscream from using the stolen Divine Bell;
- becomes King of Stormwind after Varian dies at the Broken Shore at the start of Legion (2016);
- is captured and dominated by the Jailer in Shadowlands (2020) and struggles with the guilt of it afterward;
- returns to the Alliance's fight in The War Within (2024).
Trivia
- Anduin's middle name is Llane, after his grandfather King Llane Wrynn, who was assassinated during the First War.
- His mother's death and Edwin VanCleef's rebellion are connected: both come from the same dispute over Stormwind's unpaid stonemasons.
