Antu'sul
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Antu'sul, the Overseer of Sul, is a Sandfury shaman who raises basilisks in a basin off to the side of Zul'Farrak. He greets intruders with "Lunch has arrived, my beautiful children. Tear them to pieces!" and calls up waves of his sul'lithuz basilisks during the fight. He is worth the detour: he drops Sang'thraze the Deflector, one half of the epic sword Sul'thraze the Lasher.
Background
The game's Adventure Guide says Antu'sul likes his sul'lithuz basilisks strong and ruthless and treats them like family. He is known to strike down anyone, even a fellow troll, who hurts one of his "children". Rather than bury his enemies, he lets the basilisks eat them.
His cave sits at the end of a path through the hills, reached from the scarab area of the city. In front of it is an invisible trigger: anyone who steps on it starts the fight at once, so the group should clear the basilisks along the path and only cross the trigger when it is ready.

Abilities
- Summon basilisks: at the start of the fight, a pack of non-elite Sul'lithuz Broodlings (Sul'lithuz Broodling) rushes the group. At about 75% and 25% health he calls a Servant of Antu'sul (Servant of Antu'sul), an elite basilisk that can petrify players.
- Healing Ward and Earthgrab Totem: totems that heal his allies or root players in place.
- Healing Wave of Antu'sul: a large heal on himself.
- Chain Lightning and Earth Shock: nature damage; Earth Shock also interrupts spellcasting.
Strategy
Gather the whole group in one spot, then have the tank cross the trigger. The six broodlings run at the group together, and area damage kills them in seconds.
After that, the trick is to control when the elite servants appear. They come as Antu'sul's health drops, so when one arrives, stop damaging Antu'sul and kill the servant before going back to him. A group that keeps hitting him can end up facing several elite basilisks at once. Someone quick, such as a rogue, should break his totems as they go down, and casters should interrupt his self-heal.
A known trick in Classic was to send a hunter's pet or a warlock's voidwalker into his cave first; pulling him that way skipped the opening wave of broodlings.
Loot
From our database (patch 1.12):
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Sang'thraze the Deflector] | 25% |
| [The Hand of Antu'sul] | 25% |
| [Vice Grips] | 25% |
| [Lifeblood Amulet] | 25% |
| [Troll Temper] | 55% (on the quest) |
Sang'thraze the Deflector is a one-handed sword that adds 1% parry. Its partner, [Jang'thraze the Protector], drops from Chief Ukorz Sandscalp, and using Jang'thraze joins the two into [Sul'thraze the Lasher], a two-handed epic sword for level 50. The Hand of Antu'sul is a one-handed mace with a thunder clap effect, Vice Grips are plate gloves with attack power, and the Lifeblood Amulet has Stamina and Spirit.

Quests
- Troll Temper: Trenton Lighthammer in Gadgetzan collects Troll Temper, which Antu'sul often carries.
Later history
Patch 1.3.0 toned down the Antu'sul event. Cataclysm changed his stats with the rest of the dungeon.
