Argent Dawn

The Argent Dawn is a neutral order of knights, priests, scholars and soldiers who fight the Scourge in the ruins of Lordaeron. Unlike the Scarlet Crusade, it accepts anyone who opposes the undead, including members of the Horde and even some of the Forsaken. In Classic it is the main reputation faction of the Plaguelands, with bases at Light's Hope Chapel, Chillwind Camp and The Bulwark, and its rewards range from resistance enchantments to the key to Naxxramas.
History
After the death of Alexandros Mograine, the surviving paladins of the Knights of the Silver Hand in Lordaeron grew more and more fanatical and reformed as the Scarlet Crusade. Not all of them agreed. Lord Maxwell Tyrosus and a group of like-minded knights left the order, suspecting that something dark had taken hold of its leadership, and formed the Argent Dawn to keep fighting the undead while holding to the teachings of the Light.
Lord Raymond George led the order first, and after his death Tyrosus took command. The Argent Dawn took in former Crusaders, priests, mages, dwarven engineers and scholars, and it opened embassies in the Alliance capitals to recruit help. Its members study the plague as much as they fight it, and several of its quests involve collecting samples or records rather than killing.

Where players meet the Argent Dawn
- Light's Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands is the headquarters. Lord Maxwell Tyrosus, Duke Nicholas Zverenhoff, Betina Bigglezink and Quartermaster Miranda Breechlock all stand inside or near the chapel.
- Chillwind Camp in Western Plaguelands is the Alliance camp, home to Argent Officer Pureheart and Argent Quartermaster Lightspark.
- The Bulwark on the border of Tirisfal Glades is the Horde camp, with Argent Officer Garush and Argent Quartermaster Hasana.
- The order also keeps embassies in Stormwind City and Darnassus, where Dawnwatcher Selgorm and Argent Guard Manados represent it to lower-level players, and Argent Guard Thaelrid even waits inside Blackfathom Deeps.

Quests
The Argent Dawn has some of the best-known quest lines at level 55 to 60:
- The Flesh Does Not Lie and The Active Agent: Betina Bigglezink asks for plagued flesh and Scourge records from Stratholme. The second quest lets players choose between [Seal of the Dawn] and [Rune of the Dawn], two trinkets that help against undead.
- Dawn's Gambit: Betina also sends players into Scholomance to place a device in the viewing room and defeat the necromancer student Vectus.
- The Truth Comes Crashing Down to The Argent Hold: after killing the Grand Crusader in Stratholme, players bring his head to Duke Nicholas Zverenhoff, then kill Baron Rivendare. The final quest opens the Argent Hold and offers a choice of [Argent Avenger], [Argent Defender] or [Argent Crusader].
- [[forever:quest:9121]]: the attunement to Naxxramas from [[forever:npc:16116]], added in patch 1.11. Its cost depends on reputation: at Honored it needs 5 Arcane Crystals, 2 Nexus Crystals, a Righteous Orb and 60 gold; at Revered the price drops to 2 crystals, 1 Nexus Crystal and 30 gold ([[forever:quest:9122]]); at Exalted it is free ([[forever:quest:9123]]).
Reputation
Earning reputation
- Killing undead. Scourge in the Plaguelands, Scholomance and Stratholme give Argent Dawn reputation, which makes the two dungeons the usual way to start.
- Scourgestones. Players who wear the [Argent Dawn Commission] trinket, from Argent Dawn Commission at Chillwind Camp, Argent Dawn Commission at the Bulwark or Argent Dawn Commission at Light's Hope, find Scourgestones on undead in the Plaguelands. Each turn-in is worth 25 reputation and an [Argent Dawn Valor Token]: 20 [Minion's Scourgestone] (Minion's Scourgestones), 10 [Invader's Scourgestone] (Invader's Scourgestones) or 1 [Corruptor's Scourgestone] (Corruptor's Scourgestones).
- Quests. The quest lines above give large one-time rewards, and every attunement step at Light's Hope gives 200.
- Scourge Invasion. During the patch 1.11 invasion event, players earned Necrotic Runes by fighting around the necropolises and turned them in at Light's Hope, for example in [[forever:quest:9153]].
Rewards
The three quartermasters, Argent Quartermaster Hasana at the Bulwark, Argent Quartermaster Lightspark at Chillwind Camp and Quartermaster Miranda Breechlock at Light's Hope, all sell the same goods. Most items need Honored or Revered standing.
| Reward | What it does |
|---|---|
| [Flame Mantle of the Dawn], [Frost Mantle of the Dawn], [Arcane Mantle of the Dawn], [Nature Mantle of the Dawn], [Shadow Mantle of the Dawn] | Shoulder enchantments that add 5 to one resistance. Unlocked at Revered by turning in 10 Valor Tokens (Mantles of the Dawn). |
| [Chromatic Mantle of the Dawn] | Shoulder enchantment that adds 5 to every resistance. Unlocked at Exalted for 25 Valor Tokens (Chromatic Mantle of the Dawn). |
| [Blessed Sunfruit], [Blessed Sunfruit Juice], [Enriched Manna Biscuit] | Food and drink for long Plaguelands sessions. |
| [Plans: Girdle of the Dawn], [Plans: Gloves of the Dawn] | Blacksmithing plans for Argent Dawn armor. |

During the Scourge Invasion, players could also earn the [[forever:item:22999]] ([[forever:quest:9341]]), and the Naxxramas tier 3 armor exchange at Light's Hope Chapel required standing with the order.
Later history
When the Lich King's forces attacked Light's Hope Chapel, Darion Mograine, son of Alexandros, gave his life to break the assault and free his father's spirit. In Wrath of the Lich King, Tirion Fordring merged the Argent Dawn with the remaining Knights of the Silver Hand to form the Argent Crusade, which led the war on Icecrown and ran the Argent Tournament. The Argent Dawn returned in later expansions, most notably in the Legion paladin campaign.
