Azshara

Azshara is a zone on the northeastern coast of Kalimdor, east of Ashenvale, named for the night elf queen whose empire was destroyed in the Sundering. Its quests suit characters from about level 45 to 55, but the zone is sparsely populated and many players skipped it while leveling. At level 60 it mattered more: it is home to the world dragon Azuregos and to Duke Hydraxis, whose quests are needed to put out the runes in Molten Core.
Geography
Azshara has a permanent autumn look, with red and orange trees on high cliffs above the sea. The western edge, near Ashenvale, holds the two faction outposts: Talrendis Point for the Alliance and Valormok for the Horde. To the east the land breaks into terraces and ruined Highborne buildings: the Ruins of Eldarath, the Temple of Arkkoran on the coast, Lake Mennar, and the Ravencrest Monument.
The Bay of Storms cuts into the middle of the coastline, with small islands that hold some of the zone's most important NPCs. Satyrs hold the Haldarr and Legash encampments, naga patrol the shore, and a party of high elves has set up the Thalassian Base Camp to dig through the ruins. Hydra-like creatures nest at Hetaera's Clutch.

History
Before the War of the Ancients, this coast was the heart of Queen Azshara's empire, close to the original Well of Eternity. When the Well imploded, most of the land around it sank into the sea; the ruins in the zone are the edges of what survived. Azshara and her most loyal Highborne were dragged under the waves and became the naga, which explains their presence along the shore. Highborne ghosts still haunt the ruins, and the satyrs, cursed night elves who served the Burning Legion, have made camps among them.
Quests and notable NPCs
Faction quests
Horde players start with Loh'atu, on the border with Ashenvale, who sends them after Highborne spirits in Spiritual Unrest and satyrs in A Land Filled with Hatred. The Alliance has a smaller set of quests at Talrendis Point.
Neutral quests
- Archmage Xylem, a reclusive archmage, lives in a tower on a cliff in northern Azshara. Players reach him through his servant Sanath Lim-yo in A Meeting with the Master.
- Jediga wants tablets stolen from the Highborne ruins in Stealing Knowledge, and then has players deliver copies to buyers in both factions, Archmage Xylem among them.
- Kim'jael, a goblin whose gear was taken by the high elves, asks for it back in Kim'jael Indeed!.
- Captain Vanessa Beltis needs help defending the crew of her wrecked ship from naga in A Crew Under Fire.
- Loramus Thalipedes, a hermit on an island in the Bay of Storms, tells his story in Loramus, then sends players to gather Azsharite in Azsharite and to find the name of a demon in The Name of the Beast.
Duke Hydraxis and Molten Core
Duke Hydraxis of the Hydraxian Waterlords stands on an island off the coast. His chain begins with Poisoned Water and Stormers and Rumblers, which send players to the Eastern Plaguelands and Silithus, and continues with Eye of the Emberseer and The Molten Core. Once players reach Honored with the Waterlords, he gives Agent of Hydraxis and the [Aqual Quintessence], which douses the eight runes in Molten Core that must be put out before Ragnaros can be summoned. A later quest, Hands of the Enemy, asks for the hands of four Molten Core bosses. In later patches the Waterlords also offered the [[forever:item:22754]], a version that is not used up.
Azuregos
Azuregos, a blue dragon, roams Azshara as a level 63 world boss. He guards relics of the Highborne and attacks anyone who comes close. He drops the [Mature Blue Dragon Sinew] for a hunter quest and a random pick of epics such as [Typhoon] and [Cold Snap]. Because he is in the open world, kills often led to fights between guilds of both factions.
Getting there
The only road into Azshara comes from eastern Ashenvale. Valormok has a wind rider master, Kroum, and Talrendis Point has a hippogryph master. Duke Hydraxis's island and Loramus's island are reached by swimming.
