Baron Aquanis

Baron Aquanis is a water elemental bound to the Fathom Stone in the flooded ruins of Blackfathom Deeps. He only appears for Horde players who come to take the stone's core for the Earthen Ring, and he leaves behind a strange globe that starts a quest of its own. Few players outside the Horde ever see him.

Background

The Twilight's Hammer cult has moved into the Moonshrine Ruins of Blackfathom Deeps, and its aquamancers are bending the water spirits of the place to their will. Je'neu Sancrea, a shaman of the Earthen Ring at the Horde's Zoram'gar Outpost, fears the region will be lost to them for good.

Je'neu wants the core of the ruins' Fathom Stone, a small pillar under the water just before Twilight Lord Kelris's chamber. The core holds a record of all the elemental activity in the area. When a player with the quest takes the core, Baron Aquanis rises to defend it. His name comes from the Latin word for water, as Warcraft Wiki points out.

Abilities

• Frostbolt: frost damage on one player, slowing their movement.
• Frost Nova: freezes everyone near him in place.

Strategy

The fight starts in the water, which makes it awkward: swimming players move slowly, and anyone who stays under too long runs out of breath. Taking the core near the surface, or having a warlock's or shaman's water breathing ready, keeps the fight simple.

Aquanis has little health for his level, so a group that kills him quickly avoids most of his damage. Interrupt his Frostbolts if possible, and spread out a little so a single Frost Nova does not catch everyone.

Only Horde players with Amongst the Ruins can make him appear. Alliance groups never meet him.

Loot

Apart from the Strange Water Globe, he drops only the random green and blue items any monster of his level can carry, at tiny rates.

Quests

• Amongst the Ruins (Horde): Je'neu Sancrea at Zoram'gar Outpost asks for the Fathom Core from the stone in the Moonshrine Ruins. Taking it summons Aquanis.
• Baron Aquanis (Horde): the [Strange Water Globe] he drops starts this quest. The globe seems to have fed the elemental its power; bring it to Je'neu for a reward of the [Outlaw Sabre] or the [Witch's Finger].

Later history

Baron Aquanis was removed when Warlords of Draenor (patch 6.0.2) rebuilt the dungeon. He later appeared in the mobile game Warcraft Rumble, and he returned in his original role with World of Warcraft Classic.
