Bazil Thredd
Bazil Thredd is the last boss of The Stockade and the leader of its prison riot: a former stonemason, lieutenant to Edwin VanCleef and one of the founders of the Defias Brotherhood. Killing him is the middle of the long Alliance quest chain that follows the Brotherhood from The Deadmines into the heart of Stormwind's court.
Background
Thredd and VanCleef were both members of the Stonemasons' Guild, which rebuilt Stormwind City after the orcs burned it in the First War. When the work was done, the House of Nobles refused to pay. Some senior masons were offered government posts to keep quiet, but VanCleef refused out of loyalty to the guild, led a riot and left the city swearing revenge. Thredd, his lieutenant and most trusted assistant, was caught during the unrest and thrown in the Stockade.
For years nobody visited him, and the warden assumed the Brotherhood had forgotten him. Then, a few months before the riot, a quiet stranger with papers in the name of Maelik began calling once or twice a week. Shortly afterward the prisoners rose up and took the prison, with Thredd at their head. He now holds the cell blocks with the Defias inmates and taunts the warden's men who come after him.

Abilities
- Battle Shout: raises the attack power of nearby allies.
- Smoke Bomb: throws a smoke bomb that stuns everyone close to him for a few seconds.
He fights with a weapon in each hand and can wear down a tank quickly.
Strategy
Thredd waits at the end of the Stockade with two guards, a Defias Insurgent and a Defias Inmate.
- With a careful pull, the Inmate can be drawn away first so Thredd comes with only one guard.
- Otherwise, kill or crowd-control the guards and keep Thredd on the tank. Battle Shout makes everyone around him hit harder, so his guards are worth removing early.
- Use any effect that lowers his damage, such as Demoralizing Shout, Demoralizing Roar or Curse of Weakness. As a dual-wielder he hits often.
- Melee players will be caught in Smoke Bomb; the healer should stand back to stay out of it.
Loot
Thredd drops his head for the quest every time, plus Red Wool Bandanas, coin and cloth. He has no special items of his own; anything else is a random world drop at well under 1 percent.
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Head of Bazil Thredd] | 100% (quest) |
| [Red Wool Bandana] | 80% (quest) |
| [Silk Cloth] | 20% |
| [Heavy Bronze Lockbox] | 0.7% |
Quests
- The Unsent Letter: VanCleef drops an unsent letter in the Deadmines. It goes to Baros Alexston, the City Architect in Stormwind, who explains the masons' story.
- Bazil Thredd: Baros sends the player to Warden Thelwater at the Stockade to question Thredd.
- The Stockade Riots: the warden doesn't trust the player, but sends them in anyway: kill Thredd and bring back his head.
- The Curious Visitor and Shadow of the Past: the warden hands over a sealed description of Thredd's mysterious visitor, which goes to Baros and then to Master Mathias Shaw, leader of the kingdom's spies. The chain continues from there toward the Defias's hidden backers in Stormwind.
- The Color of Blood: Nikova Raskol in Stormwind wants ten Red Wool Bandanas.

Later history
Later quests reveal that Thredd's visitor was Marzon the Silent Blade, a Defias agent working for the Brotherhood's secret patrons at court. Thredd was replaced as the Stockade's final boss when Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) rebuilt the dungeon. The 1.12 version returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
