Benediction
Benediction is the epic priest staff from Classic's priest class quest, a single weapon that can be switched between a healing form, Benediction, and a shadow form, Anathema. It needs a rare drop from Molten Core, a world-boss or demon drop, and a solo test in Eastern Plaguelands, which made it one of the most recognized priest weapons of the era.
How to get it
Benediction is assembled from three items. The [Splinter of Nordrassil] is used while carrying the other two, [The Eye of Divinity] and [The Eye of Shadow], and the three combine into the staff.
The Eye of Divinity
[The Eye of Divinity] comes from the treasure chest that Majordomo Executus leaves behind when he is defeated in Molten Core. It is a priest-only item and binds on pickup. Like the Ancient Petrified Leaf for hunters, it is not guaranteed, so a priest might wait many weeks for it to appear.

The Balance of Light and Shadow
The Eye is a trinket, and only a priest wearing it can see Eris Havenfire, a ghost in the mountains between Terrordale and Stratholme in Eastern Plaguelands. After a short introductory quest, A Warning, she gives The Balance of Light and Shadow, a solo escort test. Peasants fleeing Stratholme walk toward the Light while the Scourge attacks them, and the priest has to keep them alive with heals, shields and crowd control, saving 50 peasants before 15 are slain. It became known as one of the most demanding solo tasks in Classic. Succeeding earns the [Splinter of Nordrassil], a fragment of the World Tree.

The Eye of Shadow
The last piece, [The Eye of Shadow], is not limited to priests and binds when equipped, so it could be bought on the auction house. It drops from Lord Kazzak, the demon world boss in the Blasted Lands, and very rarely from other demons such as the Hederine Initiate and Hederine Slayer in Winterspring, and the Doomguard Commander, Dreadlord and Felguard Elite of the Blasted Lands.
What it does
[Benediction] is a two-handed staff for healing: 31 Intellect, 10 Stamina, 12 Spirit and 20 Shadow resistance, up to 106 bonus healing, and 2 percent extra critical chance on Holy spells. Its use effect, Call Anathema, turns it into [Anathema], which trades the healing and Spirit for 22 Stamina, up to 69 Shadow damage and mana regeneration of 7 every 5 seconds. Anathema can turn back the same way with Call Benediction.
That switch let one item serve both a holy priest and a shadow priest. Patch 1.12 closed a trick that let players skip the switch cooldown by logging out or changing zones.
Lore
The staff's two halves reflect the priest's balance between Light and Shadow, which is also the theme of the quest's name. Peering into the Eye of Divinity shows a lone priestess fighting off the Scourge among a crowd of peasants in Lordaeron, only to be overwhelmed. That figure is most likely Eris Havenfire, whose ghost asks the player to succeed where she failed. In later lore, Benediction is named as the staff of Archbishop Alonsus Faol, who led the Church of the Holy Light before the First War.
History
Benediction was added in patch 1.4 alongside the other Classic class quest rewards from Molten Core, such as Rhok'delar for hunters. Patch 7.0.3 later added a legacy achievement, The Balance of Light and Shadow, for characters who had earned the staff. The quest was removed in Cataclysm when the old world was rebuilt.
