Crowd Pummeler 9-60

The Crowd Pummeler 9-60 is a giant fighting robot in Gnomeregan, a stolen design that Mekgineer Thermaplugg built at monstrous size. It stands in the Engineering Labs and smashes anyone in reach. Its two-handed mace drop, which can speed up its wielder's attacks, made it a favorite stop for warriors and paladins.

Background

In Gnomeregan's better days, inventors competed for status by pitting their machines against each other. In the later Adventure Guide's account, the mekgineer Oglethorpe Obnoticus built an unbeatable robot and won the respect of the high tinker's court. Mekgineer Thermaplugg stole Obnoticus's blueprints, built a giant version of the machine, and set it loose. The damage it did was blamed on Obnoticus, and the council banished him from the city. The Crowd Pummeler 9-60 remains one of Thermaplugg's favorite (stolen) inventions.

It stands on the south side of the upper level of the Engineering Labs, a two-level workshop where leper gnomes and other machines roam.

Abilities

• Crowd Pummel: pounds everyone near it and often interrupts their spells.
• Arcing Smash: a sweeping blow that hits every player in a cone in front of it.
• Trample: stomps on nearby players for extra damage.

Strategy

Nearly everything the Pummeler does hits players near it, so the fewer people standing next to it, the better.

• The tank faces it away from the group so Arcing Smash only hits the tank.
• Melee players attack from behind, and accept some damage from Crowd Pummel and Trample.
• Casters and the healer stay at range, out of Crowd Pummel's reach, so their spells are not interrupted.

Clear the leper gnomes and machines on the upper level before pulling.

Loot

The [Manual Crowd Pummeler] is a rare two-handed mace with 16 Strength and 5 Agility. It can be used to raise its wielder's attack speed by half for a short time. The [Gnomebot Operating Boots] are leather boots with Stamina and Spirit. The [Security DELTA Data Access Card] is an item for engineers.

Quests

• Gyrodrillmatic Excavationators (Alliance): Shoni the Shilent in Stormwind City wants twenty-four Robo-mechanical Guts. The Pummeler is one of the machines that drops them.

Later history

Patch 2.3.0 lowered it from level 32 to 28, and later patches changed its loot. A different version of the fight returned in the Gnomeregan raid of Season of Discovery. The original version came back with World of Warcraft Classic.
