Flamegor
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Flamegor is the last of the three black drakes in Blackwing Lair, fought after Ebonroc and before Chromaggus. He frenzies every few seconds, and each frenzy sends out a Fire Nova that burns the whole raid, so the encounter depends on the raid's hunters keeping a steady Tranquilizing Shot rotation. Once that works, he's usually the easiest of the three drakes. He drops Tier 2 gloves.
Background
Flamegor is the third of Nefarian's drake guardians, after Firemaw and Ebonroc. He waits at the top of the laboratories, the last guard before the chamber of Chromaggus, Nefarian's two-headed experiment. Like the other two, he's an adult of the black dragonflight, the brood of Deathwing.

Abilities
Flamegor shares the drakes' common abilities:
- Shadow Flame: a cone of shadow fire for about 4,000 to 5,000 damage, the reason drake tanks need the [Onyxia Scale Cloak].
- Wing Buffet: knocks back players in front of him and reduces their threat.
- Thrash: extra attacks on the tank.
- Summon Player: pulls a player in front of him.
His own ability is Frenzy, a frenzy that greatly speeds up his attacks for ten seconds. While enraged, he also pulses a Fire Nova that damages every player in the room. He frenzies every 10 to 15 seconds.
Strategy
Hunters carry this fight. Tranquilizing Shot removes the frenzy, so several hunters take turns in a set order, each ready to fire the moment Flamegor enrages and to call for a backup if the shot misses. This is the same skill that Magmadar taught raids in Molten Core, and the tome for it originally came from Lucifron. The faster the frenzy is removed, the fewer Fire Novas the raid takes; a frenzy left for its full duration can deal more than 1,000 damage to everyone.
Otherwise he's tanked much like Firemaw, with the raid out of the way of Shadow Flame and a second tank ready to take over after each Wing Buffet. Unlike Firemaw's Flame Buffet, Flamegor's damage doesn't stack, so nobody needs to hide to drop debuffs. Before patch 1.11, raids could avoid the Fire Nova by breaking line of sight; afterward it reached everyone. Off-tanks and hunters take the most fire damage, so many raids gave them a dedicated healer.

The Tier 2 gloves include the shaman's [Gauntlets of Ten Storms], the druid's [Stormrage Handguards] and the priest's [Handguards of Transcendence].
Trivia
- Patch 1.8 fixed erratic taunt behavior on Flamegor and the other drakes.
- In the Season of Mastery version of Blackwing Lair, Flamegor and Ebonroc were fought together, each casting a stacking brand on the raid, and had to die at about the same time.
