General Angerforge

General Angerforge commands the Dark Iron armies from the West Garrison in Blackrock Depths. He is the first boss on the path that every group must take to reach the dungeon's last areas, and both factions have orders to kill him: the Horde for a massacre of its soldiers, the Alliance for a document he carries. His fight is known for the reinforcements he calls when he starts to lose.

Background

Angerforge is the veteran general of the Dark Iron clan. The game's later Adventure Guide says he spent his life studying dwarven military history, and that he recently enraged Emperor Dagran Thaurissan by publishing a harsh treatise on the clan's failures in past wars. Even so, he is loyal to his emperor and his people, and would die for them.

To the Horde he is the "Butcher of Blackrock". The Kargath Expeditionary Force, the Horde's outpost in the Badlands, blames him for organizing the attacks that wiped out its 109th division, and Warlord Goretooth makes his death the final mission he gives. The Alliance's interest is narrower: Angerforge holds half of Marshal Windsor's lost information, which Windsor needs to expose a plot reaching into Stormwind.

The West Garrison is the first area every group has to pass through on the way to the Imperial Seat and the Molten Bridge. It is sealed by a mechanism in the East Garrison that needs the [Shadowforge Key] to work, and a tunnel leads from it to the Manufactory of Golem Lord Argelmach.

Abilities

  • Sunder Armor: lowers the target's armor, stacking up to five times.
  • Flurry: a burst of faster attacks.
  • Enrage: each time a melee attack lands a critical strike on him, he enrages for 5 seconds, hitting harder and faster.
  • Intruder Alert!: at 40% health he calls in Anvilrage Reservists and two elite Anvilrage Medics to help him.

Strategy

Angerforge starts the fight surrounded by four weak militia dwarves, which die quickly to area damage. The general himself is a heavy melee fighter, and Sunder Armor makes him hit the tank harder the longer the fight goes, so the tank should be well geared and the healer ready.

The hard part comes at 40%. A wave of Anvilrage Reservists and two elite Medics run in. The Medics heal Angerforge and each other with interruptible heals and Prayer of Healing, and they run away at low health. Groups either burn Angerforge down quickly from 40% before the adds matter, or switch to the Medics, interrupting and controlling them, then finish the general. Lower-level groups found this one of the harder fights in the dungeon.
