Gri'lek

Gri'lek is a ghostly troll berserker, one of four bosses that can be summoned in the Edge of Madness, a side area of Zul'Gurub. The others are Hazza'rah, Renataki and Wushoolay. Only one of the four appears in a given lockout, following a fixed calendar, and each drops a token that players needed from all four to build their class's Zul'Gurub trinket. This article covers all four of the Edge of Madness bosses.

The Edge of Madness

The Edge of Madness lies off a crossroads in Zul'Gurub. It holds a lit brazier and stone tablets along the walls describing four legendary trolls. One tablet hints which of them is "close to the edge of madness", which tells the raid who will appear. A tablet behind the brazier teaches alchemists the recipe for [Gurubashi Mojo Madness], and every alchemist in the raid can learn it at once.

The potion is the key to the event. It takes Blood of Heroes, a [Massive Mojo], a Black Lotus and six [Powerful Mojo] to brew, and its only use is to put out the brazier, which summons that cycle's boss. Which boss appears depends on a calendar based on the day the instance was created, rotating every two weeks, so collecting all four tokens took most players at least a month and a half.

The area is guarded by Mad Servants, imps that hit very hard and open portals to two elite Mad Voidwalkers when they die. Raids killed them one at a time, banishing or enslaving them with warlocks.

The four bosses

Gri'lek

Gri'lek is the iron-blooded berserker, a dire troll whose story is told in the in-game book Tale of Gri'lek the Wanderer. Half the time he fights like an ordinary melee boss, though he can't be taunted. The other half he uses Avatar: he doubles in size, hits for 5,000 or more, wipes his threat, and fixates on a player he names, though he moves much more slowly. He also roots his target with Entangling Roots and stuns those around him with Ground Tremor. Players he chases run, and priests or paladins dispel the roots so he can't catch them.

Hazza'rah

Hazza'rah is the dream weaver, a caster who burns mana in a chain through the raid, puts everyone near him to sleep, and summons three Nightmare Illusions at a time. The illusions take the shape of creatures such as a felguard, an abomination or a devilsaur, and hit for around 5,000, but have only a few hundred health and die to a single Multi-Shot or Fire Blast. Warlocks and a hunter's Viper Sting keep his small mana pool empty.

Renataki

Renataki of the Thousand Blades is a rogue. He uses Gouge on everyone in melee range, then Vanish and reappears to ambush someone, often a cloth wearer, using Thousand Blades. Area damage and Demoralizing Shout can break his stealth, and hunter and warlock pets keep following him while he's invisible, which shows where he is.

Wushoolay

Wushoolay is a storm caller. He casts Chain Lightning, which grows stronger with each jump, a frontal Forked Lightning, and Lightning Cloud, a storm cloud that the tank and raid have to step out of. Spreading out, keeping him facing away from the raid and nature resistance on the tank make him manageable.

Loot

Drop chances are from our database (patch 1.12). Each boss always drops his token and has a good chance at one of two blue weapons.

Boss Token Weapons
Gri'lek [Gri'lek's Blood] (100%) [Gri'lek's Grinder], [Gri'lek's Carver] (43% each)
Hazza'rah [Hazza'rah's Dream Thread] (100%) [Thoughtblighter] (45%), [Fiery Retributer] (40%)
Renataki [Renataki's Tooth] (100%) [Pitchfork of Madness] (45%), [Renataki's Soul Conduit] (40%)
Wushoolay [Wushoolay's Mane] (100%) [Wushoolay's Poker] (45%), [Hoodoo Hunting Bow] (40%)

The Zul'Gurub trinkets

A player who holds all four tokens and their class's Punctured Voodoo Doll, found in the raid, can combine them into an epic trinket that belongs to their Zandalar class set. Unlike the other set pieces, the trinkets need no Zandalar reputation. Each has a short-lived effect on a three-minute cooldown, which made them strong in player-versus-player combat:
