Hearthsinger Forresten
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Hearthsinger Forresten is the ghost of a traveling musician who died in Stratholme when the city was purged. He wanders the living side of the ruins as a rare elite, and he is best known for one drop: the [Piccolo of the Flaming Fire], a trinket that makes the people around you dance.
Background
Forresten was a singer and piccolo player who happened to be in Stratholme when Arthas ordered the city purged during the Third War. He was one of the many people killed for nothing more than being there. His ghost still wanders the streets, unable to accept what happened to him, and still dressed in the bright clothes of a performer.
His story is told more fully in Wrath of the Lich King's Culling of Stratholme, set in the Caverns of Time, where players can find him alive in an inn on the outskirts of the city just before the purge, alongside the postmaster and Ezra Grimm.

Abilities
- Demoralizing Shout: lowers the attack power of nearby players.
- Enchanting Lullaby: puts a player to sleep until they take damage.
- Shoot and Multi-Shot: ranged attacks on one or several players.
These are the abilities Warcraft Wiki lists for him; the Classic version is a simple fight, and he has by far the least health of Stratholme's named enemies.
Strategy
Forresten does not attack on sight, so a group can choose its moment. In Classic he had several possible spawn points between the main gate and the service entrance sides, and our data lists four. With less than 7,000 health in our data, he dies in seconds to a level 60 group. The only thing to watch for is pulling him into a pack of the city's other undead.
Loot
Drop chances are from our database (patch 1.12). He drops one of five rare items, each about a fifth of the time.
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Piccolo of the Flaming Fire] | 20% |
| [Songbird Blouse] | 20% |
| [Woollies of the Prancing Minstrel] | 20% |
| [Rainbow Girdle] | 20% |
| [Magister's Boots] | 20% |
The piccolo is a trinket whose use makes nearby friends dance, a favorite toy of the era. His other drops keep the musician's theme, from the [Songbird Blouse] to the [Rainbow Girdle]. [Magister's Boots] belong to the mage's Dungeon Set 1 (see Tier Sets). He also drops a [Corruptor's Scourgestone] and, most of the time, a [Plagued Flesh Sample].

Quests
Forresten is not a quest target, but two of his drops feed Stratholme's Argent Dawn quests: the Scourgestone for the repeatable turn-ins, and the flesh sample for The Flesh Does Not Lie, given by Betina Bigglezink at Light's Hope Chapel.
Later history
Patch 4.0.3a lowered him to level 47 and gave him a fixed spawn in Market Row. Patch 11.0.5 removed his rare flag.
