Landslide

Landslide is an ancient mountain giant in the inner caverns of Maraudon, the last big obstacle before Princess Theradras. Once the gentle keeper of Maraudon's crystal gardens, he is now her thrall. He fights by knocking players around and calling up swarms of tiny rock elementals, and he drops the [Fist of Stone], a mace that restores mana when it hits.

Background

Mountain giants are huge beings of living stone, found across Kalimdor and often linked to the earth itself. According to the Dungeon Journal added in Cataclysm, Landslide spent years growing gardens of brilliant crystal in Maraudon's caves. When Theradras made the caverns her home, she enthralled him, and the once-calm giant now lives only to serve her.

He stands in Earth Song Falls, the green, waterfall-filled inner caverns, guarding the way to the princess's island. Groups who come in through the scepter portal meet him soon after arriving; groups who fought through the wings drop into the lake and work their way to him.

Abilities

• Knock Away: hits the tank and throws them back.
• Trample: damages the tank and everyone else standing near the giant.
• Summon Shardlings: the ability Warcraft Wiki lists under his own name, Landslide. It stuns players in an area and summons a stream of Theradrim Shardlings, small rock elementals, every couple of seconds.

Strategy

The fight is short if the group stays focused on the giant.

• Tank him with your back to a wall so Knock Away doesn't fling the tank across the cave and loose him on the healer.
• Melee should stand behind him; anyone in front or to the side risks Trample.
• Ignore the Shardlings and kill Landslide. They are weak, and they die with him. A paladin's Consecration or a mage's area spells can thin them if they pile up on the healer.

Many groups clear Landslide before going on to Princess Theradras because he sits close to her path, though he isn't required to reach her.

Loot

Landslide has a four-item blue table, each piece dropping about a quarter of the time in our data, plus the usual [Theradric Crystal Carving].

The mace [Fist of Stone] restores 50 mana when it strikes, which suits healers who melee. The [Helm of the Mountain] is a plate helm with Defense and Nature resistance, useful for warrior tanks, and the [Cloud Stone] is an off-hand item with Nature resistance.

Quests

No quest asks for Landslide. His Theradric Crystal Carvings count toward Twisted Evils for Willow, and killing him is often part of the run for Corruption of Earth and Seed or Corruption of Earth and Seed, the Princess Theradras quests.

Later history

Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) lowered his level to 39 when Maraudon was rebuilt as a lower-level dungeon.
