League of Arathor
The League of Arathor is the Alliance side of Arathi Basin: the last soldiers of the human kingdom of Stromgarde, fighting the Forsaken of The Defilers for the farms, mines and mills of the basin. From Refuge Pointe in the Arathi Highlands, the League trades its armor to the Alliance players who win the basin back. Its rewards, the Highlander's armor sets, were some of the best non-raid gear an Alliance player could earn in Classic.
Who they are
Stromgarde was once the greatest human military power of the old Alliance, heir to the empire of Arathor, the first human nation. After the Third War it fell into ruin: ogres, trolls and the Syndicate overran the highlands, and the survivors held on in the fortress of Stromgarde Keep and the outpost of Refuge Pointe.
The League of Arathor is what remains of Stromgarde's army, joined by dwarves and gnomes of the Alliance. Its goal is to retake the Arathi Basin, a fertile valley whose resources could feed and arm a reborn kingdom. The Forsaken want the same land for the Horde, and the League has sworn to stop them. Its banner, a golden sigil, is the old symbol of Arathor.
Where to find them
- Refuge Pointe in the Arathi Highlands is the League's camp outside the battleground. Field Marshal Oslight gives the battle quests, Sergeant Maclear takes resource crates and marks of honor, and the supply officer Samuel Hawke sells the rewards.
- Trollbane Hall, at the northwest of Arathi Basin, is the Alliance's starting point in the battle.
- The League sends emissaries to the Alliance capitals to recruit players when Arathi Basin is the featured battleground.

Earning reputation
Arathi Basin is a fifteen-against-fifteen battle over five points: the stables, the blacksmith, the gold mine, the lumber mill and the farm. Each point a team holds adds resources over time, and the first team to 2,000 wins. Every member of the team gains League reputation each time its total passes another few hundred resources, so a close loss still pays, and a quick win pays well.
Other sources:
- Battle quests. The Battle for Arathi Basin! asks players to assault four of the bases and is open at Neutral. At Friendly, Control Four Bases asks the team to hold four bases at once.
- Marks of honor. Each match gives Arathi Basin Marks of Honor, three for a win and one for a loss. Sergeant Maclear takes three in More Arathi Basin Marks of Honor, a turn-in removed in The Burning Crusade.
- Resource crates. An [Arathi Resource Crate], won in Arathi Basin, can be turned in through More Resource Crates.
- Care packages. Samuel Hawke hands out rations and bandages for the basin through quests such as Arathor Advanced Care Package.
Rewards
| Standing | Rewards |
|---|---|
| Friendly | [Talisman of Arathor] (in several versions for different levels), rations and bandages |
| Honored | Highlander's girdles, such as the [Highlander's Plate Girdle] and [Highlander's Cloth Girdle] |
| Revered | Highlander's greaves and boots, such as the [Highlander's Plate Greaves] and [Highlander's Cloth Boots] |
| Exalted | Highlander's shoulders, such as the [Highlander's Plate Spaulders] and [Highlander's Epaulets]; the staff [Ironbark Staff], the dagger [Sageclaw] and [Cloak of the Honor Guard] |
Each Highlander's set (plate, lamellar, chain, leather, lizardhide and cloth) has three pieces, bought one at a time at Honored, Revered and Exalted. The [Cloak of the Honor Guard], a cloak bought at Exalted, was a common choice for players who wanted strong gear outside raids. At Exalted, Control Five Bases also asks the team to hold all five bases at once and rewards the [Arathor Battle Tabard].
