Lord Roccor

Lord Roccor is a lava elemental who patrols the Halls of the Law, the ring of corridors around the arena in Blackrock Depths. He is one of the lowest-level bosses in the dungeon and one of the first a group runs into, and in Classic he was a rare elite, shown with a silver dragon around his portrait. He drops a druid idol, a shield and an enchanting formula.

Background

Roccor is one of the elementals Ragnaros lent to the Dark Iron Dwarves to guard their city. The game's Adventure Guide, added years after Classic, gives him an unusual story for a fire elemental: he hated the plotting and backstabbing among his own kind in the Molten Core, and angered the Firelord on purpose to get himself thrown out. The plan worked. Ragnaros sent him up to the Dark Irons' halls, where he guards the approach to the Ring of the Law alone, far from the politics of the Core.

The Halls of the Law are the circular passages that wrap around the arena, between the dungeon's entrance and the Detention Block. Roccor walks the back half of the circle, so groups heading for the arena or the prison often meet him while clearing their way through.

Abilities

Roccor mixes fire, nature and physical attacks:

  • Ground Tremor: stuns every player within 20 yards for 2 seconds, which also interrupts any spell being cast.
  • Earth Shock: nature damage that interrupts the target's spellcasting.
  • Flame Shock: fire damage, then more fire damage every 3 seconds for 12 seconds.
  • Reflective Skin: in Classic he could reflect a spell back at its caster. Blizzard removed this in patch 4.0.3a.

Strategy

Roccor has little health for a boss and no adds, so he is a short fight. The main danger is Ground Tremor: anyone standing within 20 yards of him gets stunned, and the stun interrupts heals. Healers and casters stand back at range, outside the tremor, while the tank holds him in place. Because his Earth Shock interrupts as well, the healer should keep the tank's health high rather than waiting for the last moment.

Casters should watch for Reflective Skin and avoid throwing big spells into it. Since he patrols, it is safest to clear the trash in the Halls of the Law first, then wait for him to walk into the cleared area.

Loot

From our database (patch 1.12):

Item Chance
[[forever:item:22527]] 55%
[Earthslag Shoulders] 25%
[[forever:item:22397]] 25%
[Stoneshell Guard] 25%
[[forever:item:22234]] 25%
[Rockshard Pellets] 16%
[Formula: Smoking Heart of the Mountain] 15%
[Essence of the Elements] 1.8%

The Idol of Ferocity and the Mantle of Lost Hope came with patch 1.10's new dungeon loot. The idol was one of the few relics feral druids could get before raiding. The [Formula: Smoking Heart of the Mountain] teaches enchanters to make the [Smoking Heart of the Mountain], a trinket with fire, nature, frost and shadow resistance.

Quests

  • Core of Elements: the Core of Elements he drops more than half the time can be turned in to [[forever:npc:16116]] of the Brotherhood of the Light in stacks for [[forever:quest:9128]] and [[forever:quest:9129]], repeatable quests for Argent Dawn reputation added in patch 1.11.
  • The Last Element: Shadowmage Vivian Lagrave in Kargath asks for ten [Essence of the Elements]. Roccor drops it only rarely; most come from golems and elementals elsewhere in the dungeon.
