Mulgore
Mulgore is the green, rolling grassland of central Kalimdor where tauren characters begin, covering levels 1 to 10. It is the ancestral home of the tauren, who settled it for good after Cairne Bloodhoof led his people there with the help of Thrall's orcs. The tauren capital, Thunder Bluff, stands on a cluster of mesas at the zone's northern end.
Geography
Mulgore is a high plateau ringed by mountains, a gentler land than the dry Barrens to its east. Its plains are covered in tall grass, pine copses and streams, and herds of plainstriders, prairie wolves, kodos and swoops wander between the camps.
- Red Cloud Mesa in the south is the tauren starting area. Its village, Camp Narache, is a ring of tents and totems.
- Brambleblade Ravine, just north of Camp Narache, is held by Bristleback quilboars.
- Bloodhoof Village, in the middle of the plains, is the second hub, with an inn and most of the zone's quest givers.
- Stonebull Lake lies to the west of Bloodhoof Village, and Red Rocks, a sacred tauren burial ground, lies to the northeast.
- The Venture Co. Mine and the Bael'dun Digsite are footholds of goblin miners and dwarf excavators respectively, both treated as invaders.
- Windfury Ridge in the north is harpy territory, and the Palemane gnolls camp on the western edge.
- Thunder Bluff rises above the northern plains.

History
The tauren once roamed all of central Kalimdor, but by the time of the Third War the centaur had pushed them into a desperate fight for survival. Cairne Bloodhoof's Bloodhoof tribe met Thrall's orcs, who helped them fight off the centaur and reach the safety of Mulgore. In gratitude, Cairne pledged the tauren to the Horde.
Cairne then united the scattered tauren tribes and built Thunder Bluff. The quests in Mulgore show the threats the new homeland still faces: quilboar raids, gnoll poachers, harpies, goblin prospectors and a dwarven dig site that the tauren see as an insult to the land.
Quests and notable NPCs
Mulgore and Red Cloud Mesa together have about 35 quests in our database, from level 1 to 14.
Camp Narache (levels 1-5)
New tauren start beside Grull Hawkwind, who sends them hunting in The Hunt Begins and The Hunt Continues. His father, Chief Hawkwind, gives the first of the Rites of the Earthmother, the trials a young tauren passes to be welcomed in Thunder Bluff. In Rite of Strength you kill Bristleback quilboars in Brambleblade Ravine and collect their belts. The quest Break Sharptusk! sends you into the ravine after Chief Sharptusk Thornmantle.
Bloodhoof Village (levels 5-12)
- Baine Bloodhoof, Cairne's son, sends players against the Palemane gnolls in Sharing the Land and to wreck the dwarves' tools in Dwarven Digging.
- Mull Thunderhorn crafts totems to purify the poisoned wells in Poison Water, Winterhoof Cleansing and the follow-ups at the Thunderhorn and Wildmane wells.
- Morin Cloudstalker investigates a ravaged Venture Co. caravan in The Ravaged Caravan, which leads to The Venture Co. and finally Supervisor Fizsprocket in the mine.
- Zarlman Two-Moons runs the Rite of Vision in the Rites of the Earthmother. The Rite of Wisdom continues at Red Rocks with the Ancestral Spirit.
- Maur Raincaller wants parts from four beasts for Mazzranache, named after the rare plainstrider Mazzranache.
- Lorekeeper Raintotem asks for help defending Red Rocks in A Sacred Burial.
The rites end with Journey into Thunder Bluff and then Rites of the Earthmother, in which Cairne himself asks you to hunt the great kodo Arra'chea and bring back the [Horn of Arra'chea].
Rare creatures: the plainstrider Mazzranache and the wolf Ghost Howl both wander the plains. Ghost Howl's hide starts The Demon Scarred Cloak.
Dungeons
Mulgore has no dungeon. Tauren usually run Wailing Caverns in the Barrens or Ragefire Chasm in Orgrimmar as their first dungeon.
Getting there
- On foot: a road leads east out of Mulgore into the Barrens, toward Camp Taurajo and the Crossroads.
- By wind rider: Thunder Bluff has the zone's flight master, Tal. A new player picks up the route at the Crossroads with Ride to Thunder Bluff.
- Mulgore has no zeppelin in Classic. Tauren who want to reach the Eastern Kingdoms ride to Orgrimmar first.

Later history
Mulgore's map changed little in Cataclysm (2010). After Cairne's death in the novel The Shattering, his son Baine became High Chieftain and Thunder Bluff's leader.
