Odo the Blindwatcher

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

Odo the Blindwatcher is a worgen boss of Shadowfang Keep who keeps watch from a rickety wooden lookout hanging off the side of the castle. He lost his sight long ago and gets by on smell and hearing, like the two bats he keeps as pets. The fight grows harder the longer it lasts, because Odo flies into a stronger rage each time he is hurt.

Background

Odo is one of the worgen of Arugal's Shadowfang pack. His post is a wooden structure built out from the walls of the keep, a lookout from which, despite being blind, he keeps watch for intruders. Two bats share it with him: a Blood Seeker and a Vile Bat. Warcraft Wiki describes the trio as adapted to the dark, Odo relying on his other senses much as his pets do.

He is one of the bosses a group meets on the way up through the keep, before the upper floors where Archmage Arugal waits.

Abilities

  • Howling Rage: as Odo takes damage, he howls and grows larger, increasing his physical damage. He does this three times in the fight, and each rage is stronger than the last (Howling Rage, then Howling Rage).
  • His bats receive the same rage when he howls.

Strategy

Odo is always pulled together with his two bats, so the whole trio has to be fought at once.

  • Kill the bats first. Every Howling Rage makes them hit harder, so leaving them for last means fighting them at their strongest.
  • Then turn on Odo. By the third Howling Rage he hits much harder than at the start, so the healer should expect the damage on the tank to climb toward the end.
  • Save cooldowns and potions for the end of the fight rather than the start.

Loot

Item Chance
[Odo's Ley Staff] 50%
[Girdle of the Blindwatcher] 50%

[Odo's Ley Staff] is a rare two-handed staff with Spirit and Stamina, a good weapon for priests, mages, warlocks and druids at this level. [Girdle of the Blindwatcher] is a leather belt with Intellect and Stamina.

Quests

No quest in patch 1.12 asks for Odo.

Later history

Patch 2.3.0 lowered him from level 24 to 21. With the Cataclysm rebuild (patch 4.0.3a) Odo stopped being a boss of his own and became one of the ghost worgen Baron Silverlaine calls up during his fight, still using Howling Rage, now joined by a shadow attack called Blinding Shadows. His belt was later added to Silverlaine's loot. The original fight came back with World of Warcraft Classic.
