Old Serra'kis
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Old Serra'kis is a huge thresher, a long-necked sea beast, hiding in a fully flooded cave in Blackfathom Deeps. Many groups never find him, since reaching him means a long swim underwater. The fight itself is simple; running out of breath is the real danger.
Background
Threshers, or threshadons, are the serpent-like predators of Azeroth's coasts and lakes. According to the later Adventure Guide, the Twilight's Hammer hunted many of the creatures in the waters under the Moonshrine Ruins for food after they settled in the Deeps. The biggest thresher of all proved impossible to catch, and those who kept trying died in the attempt. That beast is Old Serra'kis.
He lives in the Forgotten Pool, a dead-end cavern entirely under water, reached by swimming beneath the Moonshrine Ruins. Nothing else in the dungeon requires going there.

Abilities
- Leech Pulse: every few seconds Serra'kis drains health from every player near him with shadow damage and heals himself for it.
Strategy
- Get there. Dive into the water around the Moonshrine Sanctum and swim under the left side of the ruins into the Forgotten Pool.
- Breathe. The cave has no air pocket. A warlock's Unending Breath or a shaman's Water Breathing makes the fight easy; without them, the group may have to pull him out of the cave toward open water to come up for air.
- Out-damage the heal. Leech Pulse heals him for a little with every pulse. A full group with decent damage beats it easily, but a group of three or four with low damage may find he heals faster than they can hurt him.

Loot
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Bite of Serra'kis] | 33% |
| [Glowing Thresher Cape] | 33% |
| [Bands of Serra'kis] | 33% |
| [Threshadon Ambergris] | 17% |
[Bite of Serra'kis] is a rare dagger that poisons its target on hit, a good rogue weapon in the mid-twenties. The [Glowing Thresher Cape] is a rare cloak with Spirit and Strength, and [Bands of Serra'kis] are leather bracers. Threshadon Ambergris is a grey item to sell to vendors.
Quests
No quest in patch 1.12 asks for Old Serra'kis.
Later history
Patch 2.3.0 lowered him from level 26 to 24. In later lore the giant crab Guardian of the Deep drove him from his pool to lay its eggs there, and Warlords of Draenor (patch 6.0.2) removed him from the dungeon. In Season of Discovery's version of the Deeps he appears as a half-eaten skeleton. The original fight returned with World of Warcraft Classic.
