Ramstein the Gorger

Ramstein the Gorger is a giant abomination who guards Slaughter Square, the courtyard in front of Baron Rivendare's Slaughterhouse in Stratholme. He is the last obstacle before the Baron: once the three ziggurats fall, Ramstein lumbers out of the gate, and behind him come waves of the Baron's guards.

Background

Abominations are the Scourge's stitched-together brutes, built from many corpses and driven by hunger. Ramstein is among the most infamous of them. He is not clever, but he is tireless, and he is blamed for thousands of deaths when the Scourge overran Stratholme.

One of his victims was the ranger lord Nathanos Marris. Nathanos stood his ground on his farm against a wave of Scourge led by Ramstein, was killed, and rose as an undead slave of the Lich King. Freed by Sylvanas Windrunner, he became Nathanos Blightcaller, her champion, and hunted Ramstein across the Plaguelands for months until the abomination fled to the safety of Stratholme.

Abilities

• Trample: physical damage to everyone near him.
• Knockout: hits his target, knocking them back and stunning them for four seconds.

He yells "Ramstein hunger for flesh!" as he comes out to fight.

Strategy

Ramstein hits very hard but moves very slowly. Every so often he stuns the tank and turns to a random player, so the fight works best in the open space of Slaughter Square, where players have room to walk away from him until the tank recovers and takes him back. In a tight corner, someone usually dies.

Groups should not relax when he falls. His death opens the Slaughterhouse, and a stream of Black Guards and other undead pours out to protect the Baron. Since patch 1.6, a group that fails can make another attempt at him.

[Ramstein's Lightning Bolts] is a trinket that strikes nearby enemies with lightning. [Gauntlets of Valor] are the warrior's Dungeon Set 1 gauntlets (see Tier Sets), and [Crest of Retribution] is a shield. He also drops a [Corruptor's Scourgestone], a [Frayed Abomination Stitching] and usually a [Plagued Flesh Sample].

Quests

• Ramstein (Horde): Nathanos Blightcaller, at his farm in Eastern Plaguelands, wants the [Head of Ramstein the Gorger]. The rewards are the [Elemental Circle] or the [Royal Seal of Alexis].
• The Baron run: in patch 1.10's [[forever:quest:8945]], Ramstein stands between the group and the Baron on the race to save Ysida Harmon.
• The Flesh Does Not Lie: flesh samples for the Argent Dawn's Betina Bigglezink.

Trivia

Warcraft Wiki notes that his name may come from the German band Rammstein or the town of Ramstein, and that "Rammstein" with two m's means a battering ram.
