Redridge Mountains

The Redridge Mountains are a zone of red cliffs, pine woods and a large mountain lake east of Elwynn Forest, meant for characters of roughly levels 15 to 25. The town of Lakeshire is under pressure from two directions: gnolls in the hills and orcs of the Blackrock Clan pouring down from the Burning Steppes. Redridge is where many Alliance players get their first real look at the orcish threat that the game's later Blackrock content is built on.

Geography

Lake Everstill fills the middle of the zone, and most of Redridge is built around its shores.

  • Lakeshire, on the northwestern shore, is the only town. It has an inn, a flight point and the town hall where Magistrate Solomon keeps court. The bridge across the lake is being rebuilt after the last orc invasion.
  • Three Corners, in the southwest, is where the roads to Elwynn and Duskwood meet.
  • Alther's Mill and Redridge Canyons, north of the lake, are overrun by Redridge gnolls.
  • The Tower of Ilgalar, in the southeast, is a ruined mage tower now used by a Blackrock warlock.
  • Stonewatch Keep, on a hill east of the lake, has fallen to the Blackrock orcs and serves as their base in the zone.
  • Render's Valley, the southeastern valley, holds a large orc camp at the foot of the mountains that separate Redridge from the Burning Steppes.
  • Galardell Valley and Stonewatch Falls lie farther east.

History

Redridge was a frontier of the kingdom of Stormwind, close to the mountains where the Blackrock orcs made their home during the First and Second Wars. After the Second War, the clan's remnants holed up in Blackrock Spire. In Classic they have pushed back into Redridge, retaken Stonewatch Keep and set up camps in Render's Valley. Stormwind's army is spread thin, so Lakeshire depends on its own guards and on passing adventurers.

The zone's quests also tie into the wider story. The Defias Brotherhood chain from Westfall sends players to Lakeshire, and Magistrate Solomon is a link in the Alliance chain that exposes the black dragon Onyxia, who has taken the place of a Stormwind noblewoman.

Quests and notable NPCs

Lakeshire is the hub. Key quest givers:

Notable quests:

Quest Level Notes
The Everstill Bridge 20 Iron pikes and rivets, stolen by gnolls, for the bridge
Redridge Goulash 18 A cooking errand that sends players after spiders, condors and boars
An Unwelcome Guest 24 Killing Bellygrub, a large boar that has been raiding the town
Blackrock Menace 21 Battleworn axes from Blackrock orcs
Missing In Action 25 Escorting Corporal Keeshan, the lone survivor of an ambushed regiment, from an orc-held cave back to Lakeshire
Tharil'zun 25 The head of Tharil'zun, leader of the orc outrunners ambushing the road to Stonewatch Keep
Wanted: Gath'Ilzogg 26 The head of Gath'Ilzogg, warlord of the Blackrock Clan in Stonewatch Keep
Wanted: Lieutenant Fangore 26 The gnoll leader Lieutenant Fangore
Morganth 27 The Blackrock warlock Morganth at the Tower of Ilgalar

The Morganth quest is the end of a chain that starts with Theocritus at the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest; Theocritus believes Morganth is searching for the Scythe of Elune. Missing in Action is an escort through orc territory, and [Robe of Solomon] is one of its rewards.

Stonewatch Keep itself is a small open-air dungeon. Blackrock orcs patrol its courtyard and towers in numbers that are hard to handle alone, and Gath'Ilzogg waits at the top. Most players come back to it in a group of two or three once they have a few levels on the orcs.

Dungeons

Redridge has no instanced dungeon. The nearest are The Stockade in Stormwind and The Deadmines in Westfall. A path through the southern mountains leads into the Burning Steppes and Blackrock Mountain, but it is meant for characters near level 50.

Getting there

From Elwynn Forest, follow the road east past the Eastvale Logging Camp and through the pass at Three Corners. From Duskwood, take the road north out of Darkshire. Lakeshire has an Alliance flight point. Horde players have no base in Redridge in Classic and seldom visit except on their way to the Burning Steppes.
