Roogug
Roogug is a quilboar geomancer and the first named elite most groups meet in Razorfen Kraul. He is a level 28 caster who fights with lightning and summoned earth elementals, guarding a side passage near the start of the dungeon. He drops no gear of his own, but warriors on their level 30 armor quests have to kill him for a vial he carries.
Background
The quilboar of the Razorfen treat the reading of stones and crystals as the highest form of shamanism. Their geomancers draw power from the earth and from the thorns that, by quilboar legend, grew from the blood of the boar demigod Agamaggan after he fell fighting the Burning Legion in the War of the Ancients.
Roogug is one of these geomancers, a shaman of the Razorfen tribe who serves Charlga Razorflank, the crone who rules the Kraul. The game gives him little personal story in Classic: he stands at the back of a thorny side chamber with a few quilboar guards, a first taste of the spellcasters that make the Kraul harder than it looks.

Abilities
- Lightning Bolt: a single-target Nature bolt, cast often. It's his main damage.
- Summon Earth Rumbler: calls a Stone Rumbler, an elite earth elemental that fights beside him until it is killed.
Like other quilboar casters, Roogug stays at range if he can and leans on his summon to keep melee off him.

Strategy
To reach Roogug, take the first left-hand path inside the dungeon and follow it over a large vine. He waits at the back of the area.
- Clear the quilboar around his chamber first; patrols on the nearby ledges join fights easily.
- Have the tank pick up Roogug while one damage dealer kills the Stone Rumbler, or kill Roogug first, since he has little health for an elite, and clean up the rumbler afterward.
- Interrupt his Lightning Bolt whenever possible. Warriors can use Shield Bash or Pummel, rogues Kick.
- Most groups of level 25 to 30 handle him easily. He is a good warm-up for the harder casters deeper in.
Loot
Roogug drops only the quest vial and random items from the world-drop table; his own loot table has no gear made for him.
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Vial of Phlogiston] | 100% (on the quest) |
| [Treshala's Pendant] | 10% (on the quest) |
| [Sword of Decay] | under 1% (world drop) |
| [Pugilist Bracers] | under 1% (world drop) |
Quests
- Fire Hardened Mail (Alliance) and Brutal Armor (Horde): warrior class quests from Furen Longbeard in Stormwind City and Thun'grim Firegaze in The Barrens. Both need the [Vial of Phlogiston] that Roogug carries, along with smelted metals, for a set of level 30 warrior armor.
- Mortality Wanes (Alliance): after finding the remains of Heralath Fallowbrook in the Kraul, players look for [Treshala's Pendant], which almost any quilboar in the Kraul can drop, Roogug included. It goes back to Treshala Fallowbrook in Darnassus.
Later history
Warlords of Draenor (patch 6.0.2) rebuilt Razorfen Kraul. The new Roogug is a full boss, a "geomagus overseer" who commands crystal totems, and he uses an updated model. The original version shown here returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
