Sign inSpirestone Butcher
The Spirestone Butcher is a rare ogre in Lower Blackrock Spire, one of the Spirestone clan's champions. He doesn't always appear, but when he does he walks alone up and down the hallway that leads to Highlord Omokk. He is a small fight with a famous drop: the axe Rivenspike, which shreds its target's armor.
Background
The Butcher is one of the ogres of the Spirestone clan, who hold the halls of Mok'Doom on the upper reaches of Hordemar City, the orcish settlement that fills most of the Lower Spire. The clan's nominal leader is Highlord Omokk, and its real one the hidden Urok Doomhowl.
Like most rare spawns, the Butcher has no story of his own. He is a bigger, meaner ogre guarding the way into the highlord's domain. His two lines in combat sum him up: "I'll crush you!" and "Me smash! You die!"
As a rare elite, he has only a chance to be there each time a group enters a fresh copy of the dungeon. He is one of two rare ogres near Omokk. The other, the Spirestone Battle Lord, appears on the hill next to the highlord.
Abilities
The Butcher has no special abilities of note. He is a heavy melee hitter with a lot of health for a level 57 ogre, and he goes down quickly once a group focuses on him.
Strategy
The danger is the pull, not the ogre. Because he patrols the hall past several packs of normal Spirestone ogres, a careless pull can bring him into a fight that is already under way, which turns an easy group of ogres into a hard one. Groups watch his path, kill the stationary ogres along it while he walks away, and then fight him alone. On his own he is a simple tank-and-spank.
Since he is a rare spawn, many runs never see him.
Loot
Drop chances are from our database (patch 1.12).
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Rivenspike] | 50% |
| [Butcher's Apron] | 50% |
| [[forever:item:21982]] | 14% |
The axe [Rivenspike] is a slow one-handed weapon whose hits can puncture the target's armor, lowering it by 200, up to three times. Lower armor means more damage for every physical attacker in the group, not only the wielder. [Butcher's Apron] is a cloak.
Quests
The Butcher is not the target of any quest. His [[forever:item:21982]] count toward [[forever:quest:8949]], a patch 1.10 quest in Dire Maul that asks for twenty-five beads from the ogres of Dire Maul and Blackrock Spire.
Trivia
- His model was updated in patch 1.3.
- Cataclysm's patch 4.0.3a changed his stats.
