Tendris Warpwood

Tendris Warpwood is a corrupted ancient who guards the gardens of Dire Maul West. He once defended the night elf city of Eldre'Thalas with his whole being, but ten thousand years of creeping corruption have turned him against anyone who walks its paths. In battle he calls on the Ironbark Protectors, treants that patrol the gardens outside, and he holds the spirit of an ancient horse prisoner, which made him a stop on the paladin's epic mount quest.

Background

Ancients are huge, long-lived tree spirits of the night elves' forests. According to the game's Adventure Guide, Tendris was bound to Eldre'Thalas heart and soul. When The Sundering shattered the land, he held firm, but over the following ten thousand years the corruption that seeped into the ruins infected him too. He now stands in a courtyard of the west wing, shouting "You do not belong here! Ancients, rise up against these intruders!" at every group that comes near.

Tendris also holds an Ancient Equine Spirit in spectral bonds. When he dies, the spirit breaks free "with a tremendous crash of thunder."

Abilities

  • Intruder Alert!: when the fight begins, Tendris calls every living Ironbark Protector in the wing to his side.
  • Trample: damage to everyone around him.
  • Grasping Vines: knocks down and roots everyone nearby.
  • Entangle: roots a single player and deals nature damage over time.

The Ironbark Protectors trample, knock players away and root anyone who isn't fighting them in melee.

Strategy

The Ironbark Protectors decide how hard this fight is. They walk the paved paths around the Capital Gardens alone or in pairs, and every one left alive comes running when Tendris is pulled. Groups kill them first, one or two at a time; they are elementals, so a warlock can banish one while the group handles another. With the protectors gone, Tendris himself is a simple tank-and-spank fight, and players can even slip past his courtyard by its northeast corner on the way to Immol'thar's prison.
