Thaddius

Thaddius is a giant abomination charged with electricity and the last boss of the Abomination Wing (the Construct Quarter) of Naxxramas. He waits in a laboratory full of crackling machines, guarded by two wights, Stalagg and Feugen. Once they fall, he wakes up and splits the raid into positive and negative charges, and every player has to stand with their own charge or hurt everyone around them. Warcraft Wiki compares him to Frankenstein's monster.

Background

Thaddius is a huge abomination pieced together from the flesh of innocent women and children and brought to life with electricity in one of the necropolis's experimental laboratories. The souls inside him are said to be fused together, bound forever in that prison of flesh. Two huge wights, [[forever:npc:15929]] and [[forever:npc:15930]], stand on platforms beside him, linked to tesla coils that pour lightning into all three.

He speaks in broken phrases, and the one he says as he dies, "Thank... you...", suggests he was glad to be freed.

Abilities

Phase one: Stalagg and Feugen

  • The two wights fight on separate platforms, each tethered to a [[forever:npc:16218]]. If one dies more than a few seconds before the other, it comes back to life at full health.
  • Magnetic Pull: every so often each wight pulls the other's tank across to its own platform and wipes that tank's threat.
  • War Stomp: both stomp, damaging and knocking back players around them.
  • [[forever:spell:28135]]: Feugen burns mana from everyone near him.
  • [[forever:spell:28134]]: Stalagg greatly speeds up his attacks.

Phase two: Thaddius

  • When both wights are dead, the raid has 15 seconds to jump across to the central platform before the coils overload and wake Thaddius.
  • [[forever:spell:28089]]: every 30 seconds, Thaddius gives every player a positive or a negative charge. Players near others with the same charge deal 10% more damage for each of them. Players near anyone with the opposite charge damage them, and are damaged in return.
  • [[forever:spell:28293]]: lightning that jumps from player to player.
  • [[forever:spell:28299]]: if no one is in melee range, he hits a player with a ball of lightning for heavy damage.
  • Berserk: after five minutes awake, he goes berserk and kills the raid.

Strategy

In the first phase, the raid splits in two and kills both wights at about the same pace, each on its own platform. When Magnetic Pull swaps the tanks, each tank has to grab the other wight at once. The raid aims to kill them within a few seconds of each other.

The jump to the central platform is a hurdle of its own. Players who fall or arrive late are lost for the rest of the fight.

Before the fight, raids assign each charge a side: for example, negative players stand to the left of Thaddius and positive players to the right. Every 30 seconds, when Polarity Shift lands, each player checks their charge and runs to their side if it changed. Players who stay with their own charge stack up the 10% damage bonuses and deal huge damage, while a single player on the wrong side can kill several others. Strategy maps of the time had melee simply run through Thaddius to change sides, while ranged players took a path around him.

With his six and a half million health and a five-minute timer, the fight is also a damage race. The charge bonus is what makes it possible.
