Tinkerer Gizlock

Tinkerer Gizlock is a goblin gem hunter who has gone mad in the depths of Maraudon in Desolace. The only survivor of a crystal-mining expedition, he now believes the caves are his kingdom and attacks anyone who might give away his hiding place. He fights with a gun, bombs and a flamethrower, and drops one of the better rifles of the level range.

Background

Maraudon's crystals are worth a fortune, and goblins are never far from a fortune. The Dungeon Journal added in Cataclysm tells Gizlock's story: he and five other gem hunters slipped into the caves to mine them, and the satyrs killed everyone but him. Trapped underground and half out of his mind, he crowned himself ruler of the caverns. He greets intruders by shouting that Gizlock is ruler of this domain and that they will never reveal his presence.

In Classic he lurks in the inner caverns of Earth Song Falls, the lush underground lake that leads to Princess Theradras. Cataclysm moved him into the Wicked Grotto wing.

Abilities

• Shoot: a ranged attack he uses when players aren't in melee.
• Bomb: throws a bomb that deals Fire damage in an area.
• Goblin Dragon Gun: a channeled cone of fire in front of him for several seconds. While channeling he stands still, so players can step out of it.
• [[forever:spell:29419]]: added in patch 1.11, it makes beasts within 5 yards run in fear, which mostly troubles hunter pets.

Strategy

Gizlock is a fight about where people stand.

• Keep only the tank in front of him. The Dragon Gun burns everyone in its cone, and since he doesn't move while he fires, anyone caught in it can walk out of the flames.
• Spread a little so a single Bomb doesn't hit the whole group.
• Hunters should keep pets behind him, or be ready for them to run off when he uses Flash Bomb.
• Clear the nearby packs before the pull so nothing joins the fight while the group is dodging fire.

Loot

All three of Gizlock's blue items drop about a third of the time in our data, and like most Maraudon bosses he often carries a [Theradric Crystal Carving].

The gun [Megashot Rifle] has a quick 1.7-second speed and adds ranged attack power, a strong choice for hunters in their late 40s. The [Gizlock's Hypertech Buckler] is a shield for spellcasters, and the sword [Inventor's Focal Sword] adds to spell critical strike chance.

Quests

Gizlock isn't the target of any quest. His Theradric Crystal Carvings count toward Twisted Evils for Willow.

Later history

Patch 4.0.3a lowered his level to 35, gave him a new goblin model and moved him from Earth Song Falls to the Wicked Grotto.
