Urok Doomhowl

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

Urok Doomhowl is the hidden master of the Spirestone ogres in Lower Blackrock Spire. He rules through his puppet, Highlord Omokk, and stays out of sight until players draw him out by planting Omokk's head on a pike in his pile of skulls. The fight is one of the few summoned encounters in the Lower Spire and is started by a quest from Warosh, an ogre mage Urok cursed into a trogg.

Background

The later Adventure Guide calls Doomhowl the true leader of the spire's ogres. He enchanted his trusted aide Omokk to command the clan in his place, and he kills any ogre who challenges the highlord, so that no one discovers the trick.

One ogre who did challenge him was Warosh, an ogre mage of the Spirestone clan. Urok stole Warosh's mojo and cursed him into the shape of a trogg. Warosh now wanders Hordemar City, the orcish settlement that fills most of the Lower Spire, hoping someone will kill Urok and bring his magic back.

Abilities

  • Intimidating Roar: sends nearby players running in fear for eight seconds.
  • Rend: a bleed on his target that deals damage every three seconds.
  • Strike: a heavy melee hit on the tank.

Summoning and strategy

Urok's Tribute Pile sits on a landing at the hairpin turn of the stone ramp that climbs from the Skitterweb Tunnels. Several ogres stand on it. To summon him, players need two things: [Omokk's Head], which Highlord Omokk always drops, and the [Roughshod Pike], which stands on a rack on the east wall of upper Hordemar City. Mounting the head on the pike in the skull pile starts the event.

Before Urok appears, waves of his guards attack: Urok Enforcers and Urok Ogre Magi. The pike with the head can be used again during the fight to strike his minions, so groups often give that job to one player, who uses it about every 30 seconds. If the waves stall, using the pike again pushes the event forward.

Because nothing happens until the pike is planted, groups have time to clear the landing and the spiders up the ramp first. Urok himself is not immune to crowd control. His roar is the main danger, since it can send players running into packs that are still standing, so protection from fear such as a shaman's Tremor Totem helps. A warlock can even keep him feared while damage-over-time spells wear him down.
