Viscous Fallout
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Viscous Fallout is a water elemental poisoned by the radiation that ruined Gnomeregan. It wanders the city's lower halls looking much like the other oozes and slimes around it, so many groups walk past without knowing it is a boss. It is short, but its toxic volley hits everyone at once.
Background
When the troggs invaded Gnomeregan, Mekgineer Thermaplugg persuaded High Tinker Mekkatorque to flood the city with radioactive gas. The gas killed far more gnomes than troggs, and it fouled everything it touched, including the city's once elegant waterworks.
According to the later Adventure Guide, a lone water elemental lived in the gnomes' aquifer and was caught in the contamination. The poison corrupted its pure form, and it now wanders the halls in anger and pain, a living embodiment of Mekgineer Thermaplugg's betrayal.
It roams the lower level of the first great hall, under the ledge where groups enter. Warcraft Wiki notes that a high-level rogue or druid can reach it simply by dropping off that ledge.

Abilities
- Toxic Volley: a burst of poison that damages every player nearby and keeps poisoning them for several seconds afterward.
Strategy
- Find it. Viscous Fallout looks like the irradiated slimes and oozes of the lower hall. A target macro for its name helps the group spot it among them.
- Clear around it. The area is full of Irradiated Slimes and other monsters; pull them first so they do not join.
- Cure and heal. Toxic Volley hits the whole group, so the healer must heal everyone, not just the tank. Druids, shamans and paladins can remove the poison.
- Kill it fast. It has little health for a boss of its level and goes down quickly.

Loot
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Hydrocane] | 33% |
| [Toxic Revenger] | 33% |
| [Acidic Walkers] | 33% |
The [Hydrocane] is a rare staff that lets its wielder breathe underwater and adds 15 Frost resistance. The [Toxic Revenger] is a dagger that can release a poison cloud around its wielder, and [Acidic Walkers] are cloth boots with Intellect, Spirit and spell power.
Quests
No quest in patch 1.12 asks for Viscous Fallout.
Later history
Patch 2.3.0 lowered it from level 30 to 28, and later patches changed its model and loot. In the lore of the book Exploring Azeroth, the Hydrocane was recovered after its defeat and kept safe in Tinker Town in Ironforge. The original fight returned with World of Warcraft Classic.
