War Master Voone

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

War Master Voone is the forest troll who leads the Smolderthorn tribe in Lower Blackrock Spire. A veteran raider of the Second War, he fights in three stances that grow more dangerous as his health drops. He is one of the three generals whose gemstones open the Upper Spire, so almost every group heading for the top of the mountain kills him.

Background

The later Adventure Guide gives Voone a long history. During the Second War he led small strike teams deep into the high elves' lands of Quel'Thalas. He joined Rend Blackhand's Dark Horde not out of belief in the Blackhand family's cause, but because he wanted to be its chief strategist, and because he likes the odds of an underdog. In the spire he rules Tazz'Alor with Shadow Hunter Vosh'gajin at his side.

He is also a torturer: he tortured the tauren druid [[forever:npc:16080]] nearly to death. In patch 1.10, Mor's spirit became one of the bosses players summon in the Lower Spire with a brazier during the Dungeon Set 2 quests, in [[forever:quest:8966]].

Abilities

Voone changes stance twice in the fight:

  • The Thrasher (from the pull): Thrash, which gives him extra attacks, and Throw Axe, a heavy thrown axe that stuns a random player for two seconds.
  • The Brawler (at 65% health): Cleave, which hits up to three players in front of him, and Mortal Strike, which halves healing on the tank for a few seconds.
  • The War Master (at 40% health): Snap Kick and Pummel, which stun and interrupt, and Uppercut, which knocks his target into the air.

He also has a war stomp that slows nearby players. He is immune to stuns.

Strategy

Voone stands on the upper level of Tazz'Alor among trolls, and the room before him holds Smolderthorn Berserkers. Clear them first; groups have found that mind-controlling a berserker to fight Voone doesn't work, because the charm breaks when it attacks him.

The fight is a tank-and-spank, but the tank spends a lot of time in the air from Uppercut. Damage dealers should hold back a little after each knock so they don't take his attention while the tank lands. Melee should stay behind him once he starts to cleave, and healers should be ready for the healing reduction from Mortal Strike.
