Westfall

Westfall is a zone of abandoned farms and dry plains west of Elwynn Forest, built for characters of roughly levels 10 to 20. Once the breadbasket of Stormwind, it has been left to bandits of the Defias Brotherhood, gnolls, murlocs and rogue harvest golems. Its quests build toward one of the best-known dungeons in the game, The Deadmines, hidden under the ruined town of Moonbrook.
Geography
Westfall runs from the Elwynn border down to the sea. The main road crosses the zone north to south past golden fields and empty farmhouses.
- Sentinel Hill, in the center, is the headquarters of the People's Militia and has the zone's flight point, inn and vendors.
- Moonbrook, in the south, is a ghost town held by the Defias. The entrance to the Deadmines is in a building at its edge.
- The Jangolode Mine and the Gold Coast Quarry are Defias mining operations on the northern edge.
- Saldean's Farm, the Molsen Farm, the Jansen Stead, Alexston Farmstead and others dot the fields, some still worked, most abandoned.
- The Westfall Lighthouse stands on the southwestern point above the Longshore, where murlocs crowd the beaches.
- The Dagger Hills and the Raging Chasm fill the southeastern corner.

History
When Stormwind was rebuilt after the Second War, the work fell to the Stonemasons' Guild under Edwin VanCleef. The nobles refused to pay what they owed, the guild was driven out, and its members turned to crime as the Defias Brotherhood. With the kingdom's soldiers away fighting elsewhere, the Defias took over Westfall's farms, chased off or recruited the farmers, and began building a warship in secret under Moonbrook.
The few people who stayed formed the People's Militia under Gryan Stoutmantle, a former Stormwind soldier, and set up camp at Sentinel Hill. Much of the zone's story is the militia's investigation of who is behind the Defias. See Edwin VanCleef for the man at the top.
Quests and notable NPCs
Westfall has a dense, story-driven quest hub at Sentinel Hill, with smaller hubs at the Saldean and Furlbrow farms.
At Sentinel Hill. Gryan Stoutmantle gives The People's Militia, a three-part chain against the Defias, and the long series called The Defias Brotherhood. That chain sends players to Lakeshire to speak with Wiley the Black, back to Westfall to hunt down a Defias messenger, and finally to escort a Defias traitor to the hidden entrance in Moonbrook (The Defias Brotherhood). Its last step is to kill VanCleef inside the Deadmines. Scout Riell and Captain Danuvin give smaller militia tasks, and Thor is the gryphon master.
On the farms. Farmer Saldean and Salma Saldean give the famous Westfall Stew cooking errand, which has players collecting meat, snouts, eyes and okra from the zone's beasts and murlocs; it rewards a stack of [Westfall Stew] and the recipe to cook more. Near the northern border, Verna Furlbrow asks for oats for her old horse in Poor Old Blanchy, while her husband Farmer Furlbrow waits for the deed to the farm (Furlbrow's Deed).
On the coast. Captain Grayson, the ghostly keeper of the lighthouse, sends players after the murloc Old Murk-Eye in The Coastal Menace.
Other memorable sights:
- Harvest Golem and Harvest Watcher machines, once used to tend the fields, now wander the farms out of control.
- Klaven Mortwake is a rare elite who can turn up in the fields.
- Captain Sander's Hidden Treasure is a short treasure hunt that starts from a map ([Captain Sander's Treasure Map]) and leads around the coast.

Dungeons
The Deadmines (The Deadmines) is a dungeon for levels 17 to 26 reached from Moonbrook. Players fight through a goblin-run mine, past bosses such as Rhahk'Zor, Gilnid and Mr. Smite, to a cave where the Defias have nearly finished their juggernaut. Captain Greenskin, Cookie and Edwin VanCleef wait on the ship. Several Sentinel Hill quests, plus VanCleef's head, are turned in back in Westfall.
Getting there
From Elwynn Forest, follow the road west from Goldshire past Westbrook Garrison and over the bridge. Sentinel Hill has an Alliance flight point. Horde characters usually arrive later, on their way to the Deadmines, by walking north from Stranglethorn Vale through Duskwood.
