Ancient Stone Keeper

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

The Ancient Stone Keeper is a titan golem that still guards the Temple Hall of Uldaman, one of the last of the vault's keepers to remain loyal to its makers. It is a short fight made awkward by the sand storms it summons, and it drops a pair of armor pieces.

Background

The titans' servants built Uldaman as a vault, and they staffed it with stone keepers: golems that defended the halls and ran the place while the watchers Ironaya and Archaedas slept. The game's Adventure Guide says the Ancient Stone Keeper belonged to a small group that passed orders between the watchers and the vault's many other servants.

That group has dwindled. Its fellow keeper, the Obsidian Sentinel, was corrupted and turned to glass, and the guide calls the Ancient Stone Keeper the last of its kind, still guarding the titans' secrets as well as it can until it finally wears out.

Abilities

  • Sand Storms: the keeper calls up Sand Storms (Sand Storm), small whirling elementals that wander around the room and damage anyone they touch.

Each storm lasts about 30 seconds. Otherwise the keeper fights in melee. Unlike the Obsidian Sentinel, it doesn't reflect spells, so casters can use their full strength on it.

Strategy

The keeper itself is simple: a tank holds it while the rest of the group deals damage. The challenge is the sand storms. They move around the room on their own, so everyone should watch for them and step out of their path. Ranged players and healers have room to step away; melee players need to watch the floor around the keeper.

The keeper casts Sand Storms again and again, so a long fight means more storms to dodge. It has under 9,000 health, so a group that keeps up its damage can end the fight before the room gets crowded.

Loot

From our database (patch 1.12):

Item Chance
[Cragfists] 50%
[Rockshard Pauldrons] 50%
[Solid Stone] 19%
[Deeprock Salt] 12%

Cragfists are plate gloves with +5 defense and a random enchantment, useful for warrior and paladin tanks of the level. The Rockshard Pauldrons are uncommon mail shoulders with Strength, Intellect and Spirit. The keeper also leaves Solid Stone and Deeprock Salt, which blacksmiths and leatherworkers can use.

Later history

Patch 10.0.2 gave the keeper a new model. Its loot table has grown since Classic.
