Baelog

Baelog is the leader of the Lost Dwarves, three dwarf brothers trapped deep inside Uldaman with his siblings Eric "The Swift" and Olaf. To the Alliance he is a quest giver who needs help; to the Horde he is one third of a boss fight. Like his brothers, he is a joke on Blizzard's 1993 game The Lost Vikings, whose heroes were Erik the Swift, Baleog the Fierce and Olaf the Stout.

Background

Baelog and his brothers took a contract from the Explorers' League of Ironforge to clear a path through Uldaman for a team of researchers. Instead they got hopelessly lost in the vault, and then the troggs woke up and overran the dig. The three ended up stranded at a camp called Dig Two, behind enemy lines.

While stuck there, Baelog worked out how to open the sealed Chamber of Khaz'mul: by joining [The Shaft of Tsol] and the [Gni'kiv Medallion] into the [Staff of Prehistoria] and using it in the Map Chamber. He wrote it all down in his journal. Olaf had bet him that his beard would reach his knees before they saw anyone who wasn't a trogg, and Baelog was glad when adventurers arrived first.

Abilities and strategy

The brothers' faction is Ironforge, so Alliance players see them as friendly. Horde groups have to fight all three at once. Baelog is the trio's damage dealer: he uses Strike in melee and Shoot with his bow at range.

The brothers have under 5,500 health each, so the simplest plan is to kill them one at a time and use crowd control on the others. Baelog is a good first target, since his bow keeps reaching healers and casters at the back. When the fight is over, the chest in their camp holds the Gni'kiv Medallion, the half of the staff the Horde needs.

Loot

The Nordic Longshank is a one-handed sword with Agility and Stamina. Baelog's Shortbow is a plain white bow, and the stack of Precision Arrows he always carries is a small bonus for hunters.

Quests

• The Lost Dwarves: Prospector Stormpike in Ironforge sends Alliance players to find Baelog. The quest ends with him.
• The Hidden Chamber: Baelog then asks the player to read his journal, open the hidden chamber and report back to Stormpike.

Trivia

• Baelog is based on Baleog the Fierce from The Lost Vikings, who fought with a sword and a bow, just as Baelog does here. Later items such as the Helm of the Fierce use the same title.
