Blind Hunter

The Blind Hunter is a rare pale bat that sometimes lurks deep in Razorfen Kraul. It is a level 32 rare elite with no special mechanics, but it is worth hunting for: it drops [Nightstalker Bow], one of the better bows for its level, and hunters can tame it as a pet. Horde players on a guano errand in the Kraul can also get their quest item from it.

Background

Bats roost in the dark tunnels of the Kraul, where the quilboar collect their droppings. The Blind Hunter is a much larger, pale white bat that lives in the deepest parts of the dungeon. Players have long guessed that its color and blindness come from living where the light never reaches, unlike the ordinary Kraul Bats that roost closer to the entrance. The game never explains it.

It isn't tied to the quilboar or the Death's Head; it is a wild animal. Its rarity, and the chance at the bow, made checking its cave a habit for groups running the Kraul.

Abilities

The Blind Hunter has no recorded special abilities in Classic. It fights in melee like other large bats, and its threat comes from its elite health and damage rather than any trick.

Strategy

• The Blind Hunter is a rare spawn, so it is not there every run. Look for it in the side caves of the lower Kraul.
• It is a straightforward tank-and-spank fight. Clear the bats and quilboar around it first so they don't join in.
• Hunters who want it as a pet need to be level 32 to tame it. Many hunters still chose a tougher, easier-to-find pet, since the bow it drops can't be had once it's tamed.

Loot

The Nightstalker Bow needs level 27 and fires faster than most bows of its time. The Stygian Bone Amulet adds Spirit and Stamina, and the Batwing Mantle is a cloth shoulder piece with Intellect and Spirit.

Quests

• Going, Going, Guano! (Horde): Master Apothecary Faranell in Undercity wants a pile of [Kraul Guano] for his experiments. Any of the Kraul's bats can drop it, the Blind Hunter included. The quest leads on to Hearts of Zeal, which sends players to the Scarlet Monastery.

Later history

Patch 2.3.0 lowered its level from 32 to 27, and Cataclysm raised it to 35. Warlords of Draenor (patch 6.0.2) rebuilt Razorfen Kraul and replaced it with Groyat, the Blind Hunter, a full boss. The original rare returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
