Undercity
The Undercity is the capital of The Forsaken, built in the crypts, dungeons and sewers beneath the ruined capital of Lordaeron in Tirisfal Glades. It is ruled by the Banshee Queen, Sylvanas Windrunner, and is the main Horde city of the Eastern Kingdoms. In Classic it is also the home of the Royal Apothecary Society, whose chemists work on a new plague meant for the Scourge.
Geography
Players enter through the ruins of Lordaeron's throne room and ride elevators down into the city. The Undercity is laid out in rings around a central hub, with green slime flowing through canals, and four quarters set around the outer ring.

- The Trade Quarter, at the center, holds the bank, the auction house and the bat handler.
- The Magic Quarter holds mage, warlock and priest trainers.
- The War Quarter holds warrior trainers.
- The Rogues' Quarter holds rogue trainers.
- The Apothecarium is the base of the Royal Apothecary Society.
- The Royal Quarter, at the end of a long passage, is Sylvanas's throne room.
- The canals and sewers wind under and between the quarters. A sewer pipe lets players leave the city without using the elevators.

History
The city of Lordaeron was the capital of the largest human kingdom. During the Third War, Prince Arthas Menethil, now a death knight of the Lich King, returned home and killed his father, King Terenas, in the throne room. Arthas began building a vast network of tunnels and crypts beneath the city as a base for the Scourge.

When the Lich King's power weakened, Sylvanas Windrunner, the former Ranger-General of Quel'Thalas whom Arthas had raised as a banshee, broke free. She led a band of free-willed undead, the Forsaken, took the ruined capital from the dreadlords who held it, and forced one of them, Varimathras, into her service. The Forsaken made the tunnels their home, finished the network and named it the Undercity.
The Forsaken joined the Horde under Thrall as a matter of convenience. Many orcs and tauren distrust them, and their apothecaries' plague research is a source of tension inside the Horde.
Quests and notable NPCs
The Undercity has around 30 quests in our database, many of them starting points for chains in other zones.
- Lady Sylvanas Windrunner holds court in the Royal Quarter with Varimathras at her side. She sends level 54 to 60 players to her champion in the Eastern Plaguelands in The Champion of the Banshee Queen.
- Master Apothecary Faranell leads the Royal Apothecary Society. He receives ingredients from the plague chains of Silverpine Forest (A Recipe For Death) and the Hillsbrad Foothills.
- Apothecary Zinge sends players out on errands, such as Sample for Helbrim to the Barrens.
- Bethor Iceshard, a mage in the Magic Quarter, appears in the Tirisfal and Silverpine chains (The Lich's Identity, The Prodigal Lich).

Dungeons
The Undercity has no dungeon inside it. Horde players heading to Shadowfang Keep and the Scarlet Monastery start from here, and Stratholme and Scholomance lie to the east in the Plaguelands.
Getting there
The Undercity is in the eastern part of Tirisfal Glades. Horde players from Kalimdor arrive by zeppelin at the tower outside the ruins, flying from Orgrimmar in Durotar or from Grom'gol in Stranglethorn Vale. Forsaken characters start in Deathknell and walk there through Brill.
Later history
In Battle for Azeroth (2018), the Alliance besieged Lordaeron, and Sylvanas blighted the city to deny it to the attackers, leaving the Undercity a ruin.
