Tirisfal Glades

Tirisfal Glades is the starting zone of the undead Forsaken, a gloomy forest of dead trees and green-lit fog in northern Lordaeron. It covers levels 1 to 12. The zone holds the ruins of Lordaeron's capital, with Undercity beneath them, and the Scarlet Monastery, one of the most visited dungeons of Classic.

Geography

Tirisfal lies in the northwest of the old kingdom of Lordaeron, between Silverpine Forest to the south and the Western Plaguelands to the east. Once a farming region of pine woods and lakes, it is now blighted: the trees are bare, the farms are haunted, and a pale green light hangs over everything.

  • Deathknell, in the far west, is the walled graveyard village where new undead characters rise.
  • Brill, in the center, is the Forsaken town. It has an inn, the Gallows' End Tavern, and a graveyard where apothecaries work.
  • The Ruins of Lordaeron, in the south-east, are what is left of the human capital. The elevators inside lead down to the Undercity.
  • The zeppelin tower, near the ruins, has airships to Orgrimmar in Durotar and to Grom'gol in Stranglethorn Vale.
  • Agamand Mills, in the north, is the haunted estate of the Agamand family.
  • Brightwater Lake, in the north-east, has a small island where a Forsaken mage lives.
  • The Scarlet Monastery, in the far north-east, and the Scarlet Watch Post on the coast are held by the Scarlet Crusade.
  • The Bulwark, on the eastern edge, is the Forsaken barricade against the Scourge of the Plaguelands.

History

Tirisfal was the heartland of Lordaeron, the largest human kingdom of the Alliance. During the Third War, the plague of The Scourge spread through its villages, and Prince Arthas Menethil returned to the capital and murdered his father, King Terenas. The kingdom fell to the undead.

When the Lich King's power weakened, some of the undead regained their free will. Led by Sylvanas Windrunner, they called themselves The Forsaken, took the ruined capital, and built the Undercity in the crypts and sewers beneath it. Tirisfal is their homeland now. The Forsaken joined the Horde as uneasy allies.

The living have not given up the region. The Scarlet Crusade, human zealots who see all undead as enemies, holds the monastery in the north-east and sends patrols to burn Forsaken outposts.

Quests and notable NPCs

Tirisfal has around 50 quests in our database, counting Deathknell.

Deathknell

New Forsaken wake in a crypt and are sent by Undertaker Mordo to Shadow Priest Sarvis (Rude Awakening). Sarvis has them put down the mindless zombies in The Mindless Ones. Executor Arren sends players against the Scarlet Crusade's camp in The Scarlet Crusade and The Red Messenger, and Vital Intelligence carries the captured papers to Brill.

Dungeons

The Scarlet Monastery (Scarlet Monastery) is a four-wing dungeon complex for levels 26 to 45: the Graveyard, Library, Armory and Cathedral. Each wing is a separate instance with its own bosses and loot. Both factions run it, and Alliance players often travel across the zone to reach it.

Getting there

Undead characters start in Deathknell. Other Horde players arrive by zeppelin from Orgrimmar or Grom'gol, landing at the tower near the Undercity. On foot, the road south leads into Silverpine Forest and the road east leads past the Bulwark into the Western Plaguelands. The Undercity has a bat handler for flights.
