Emperor Vek'lor

Emperor Vek'lor is one of the Twin Emperors, the two qiraji brothers who rule Ahn'Qiraj in the name of the Old God C'Thun. He and his twin, Emperor Vek'nilash, are fought together in their throne room as the second-to-last encounter of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. Vek'lor is the caster of the pair, immune to physical damage, while his brother is a swordsman immune to magic. The two heal each other when close and swap places every half minute, which made the Twin Emperors one of the hardest coordination fights of the original game.

Background

The Twin Emperors rule the qiraji from the sanctuary of their temple, answering only to C'Thun, whom the qiraji worship as their master. In the qiraji stories told in Ahn'Qiraj, they oversaw the creation of the anubisath, the stone giants of the qiraji army, in the fires beneath the city, and a thousand years ago they sent their armies against Kalimdor in the War of the Shifting Sands, with General Rajaxx in command.

When the bronze dragonflight joined the war and its dragons crushed the anubisath, Vek'lor set out to build a weapon that could fight them. Guided by his master's whispers, he hammered out the first obsidian destroyer in a forge beneath the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj. Later, the brothers built a greater destroyer together, Moam, with Vek'nilash shaping its body and Vek'lor filling it with magic. Even so, the war ended with the emperors sealed behind the Scarab Wall.

Vek'lor is the clever, spell-casting twin. Vek'nilash is the warrior, swinging a huge sword.

Abilities

Both emperors

  • Heal Brother: when the twins are within about 60 yards of each other, they heal each other for huge amounts.
  • Twin Teleport: every 30 to 40 seconds, the two swap places. They're rooted for a moment, all threat is wiped, and each attacks whoever is closest when the root ends.
  • Shared health: damage to one lowers the other by the same percentage of health, so they die together.
  • Berserk: after 15 minutes they go berserk and wipe the raid.

Vek'lor

  • Immune to physical damage.
  • Shadow Bolt: cast over and over at his target.
  • Blizzard: a damaging, slowing storm on the raid.
  • Arcane Burst: an explosion that hits and knocks back anyone who comes into melee range.
  • Explode Bug: he makes a nearby scarab or scorpion swell up and explode, dealing heavy fire damage around it.

Vek'nilash

  • Immune to magic, except holy damage.
  • [[forever:spell:26007]]: knocks a player in melee range away.
  • [[forever:spell:26613]]: a huge blow that lowers the tank's defense.
  • Mutate Bug: he turns a nearby bug into a giant that attacks the raid.

Strategy

The raid splits into two teams, one on each side of the room, so the brothers never get near each other. Vek'nilash is tanked by warriors and killed by melee and hunters. Vek'lor, immune to physical damage, is usually tanked by a warlock using Searing Pain, which builds a lot of threat, while mages and other casters kill him from range.

Every time the twins teleport, both teams have to pick up a new emperor immediately. The warlock on Vek'lor's side now faces Vek'nilash, and the warriors on Vek'nilash's side face a caster who blasts any melee who touch him. Tanks wait close to where each twin will appear, and the rest of the raid holds back for a moment until threat is set.

The bugs on the floor are the other half of the fight. Hunters and warlocks kill them where possible, and area spells are avoided near the emperors, since hitting a bug with one makes it hostile. Because the twins share a health percentage, casters do proportionally more for the kill.

The fight ends when both die together. For many guilds, the Twin Emperors were the wall that kept them from C'Thun for weeks.

Loot

Each emperor has his own loot. From our database (patch 1.12):

Item Dropped by Chance
[[forever:item:20930]] Vek'lor 100%
[[forever:item:21597]] Vek'lor 16.7%
[[forever:item:21599]] Vek'lor 16.7%
[[forever:item:21601]] Vek'lor 16.7%
[[forever:item:20926]] Vek'nilash 100%
[[forever:item:21679]] Vek'nilash 14.3%
[[forever:item:21608]] Vek'nilash 14.3%
[[forever:item:21229]] both 100%

The [[forever:item:20930]] and [[forever:item:20926]] are the helmet tokens of the Tier 2.5 sets. Vek'lor's diadem is for hunters, rogues, shamans, paladins and druids, and Vek'nilash's circlet for warriors, priests, mages and warlocks; players turn them in with Brood of Nozdormu reputation, for example with [[forever:quest:8628]] or [[forever:quest:8561]]. The [[forever:item:21679]] is a two-handed sword that shocks its target with lightning.

Trivia

  • Warcraft Wiki notes that the emperors received updated models with shoulder pads in The Burning Crusade, just as the raid was about to become old content, and that they use the skeleton and animations of the night elf male.
