Gizrul the Slavener
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Gizrul the Slavener is a great white worg in Lower Blackrock Spire, the mate of Halycon. He never waits in a room to be found. He comes only when Halycon dies, charging down the hall into her lair to avenge her, so every group that kills her fights him straight after.
Background
With Halycon, Gizrul has bred some of the largest and most savage worgs the orcs have ever had, the wolves the Bloodaxe Legion rides into battle. The later Adventure Guide calls him reclusive and unpredictable: few in the Dark Horde have ever seen him, and he leaves his shadowy den only when his mate calls.
In the game, that call is her death. When Halycon falls, a message says she "lets loose a guttural growl" and that something in the halls "is very, very angry." A few seconds later Gizrul arrives.

Abilities
- Fatal Bite: a bite that drains health from his target and heals him for twice the amount.
- Infected Bite: a disease that deals nature damage over time and makes the victim take more physical damage.
- Frenzy: raises his attack speed sharply for two minutes.
Strategy
Since Gizrul always follows Halycon, the real strategy starts before her fight. Groups kill Halycon inside her lair rather than in the hallway, keep their health and mana up through the end of her fight, and are ready to pick him up the moment he comes through the door.
The tank meets him at the entrance. His Fatal Bite heals him, so damage needs to stay steady, and anyone who can cure diseases should remove Infected Bite from the tank. Hunters can use Tranquilizing Shot to remove his frenzy, which is the most dangerous part of the fight for a tank in dungeon gear.
Groups that only want Halycon can stealth or run out of the room before he arrives, but most stay for his loot.
Gizrul is also a target for small groups, and for druids in particular. Pairs of rogues with a druid, who can stealth past most of the spire, kill Halycon and then stay for Gizrul because of the druid's Dungeon Set 1 shoulders he drops.

Loot
Drop chances are from our database (patch 1.12).
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Rhombeard Protector] | 25% |
| [Wolfshear Leggings] | 25% |
| [Bleak Howler Armguards] | 25% |
| [Wildheart Spaulders] | 25% |
Rhombeard Protector is a shield, and the [Wildheart Spaulders] belong to the druid's Dungeon Set 1, which made Gizrul a target for druids gearing up. He also drops wolf meat.
Quests
Gizrul is not the target of any quest, but his shoulders count toward the Dungeon Set 2 upgrades of patch 1.10: druids brought the Wildheart Spaulders, Boots and Kilt to Ironforge in [[forever:quest:8951]] (Alliance) or to Orgrimmar in [[forever:quest:9016]] (Horde).
