Halycon

Halycon is the great worg who breeds the Bloodaxe Legion's war wolves in Lower Blackrock Spire. She lives in a cave strewn with the gnawed bones of Dark Iron dwarves, guarded by her pups, and her death brings her furious mate, Gizrul the Slavener, charging down the hall. Two quests, one for each faction, send players to kill her.

Background

Halycon is the den mother of the Blackrock orcs' worgs. With Gizrul she has raised generations of the huge wolves the orcs ride and fight beside. In return the orcs feed her their prisoners, captured Dark Iron dwarves, whose remains litter the floor of her lair.

The later Adventure Guide says she comes from a long line of worgs bred for ferocity and loyalty, and that rumors claim she is a demonic hound given to Rend Blackhand by a pit lord of the Burning Legion.

Her lair is to the right at the top of the stairs above Urok Doomhowl's ledge, just down the hall from the Storehouse of Quartermaster Zigris.

Abilities

• Rend: a bleed on her target that deals damage every three seconds.
• Thrash: two extra attacks at once.

When she dies, a howl echoes through the spire, and Gizrul comes from his den to avenge her.

Strategy

Halycon is an easy fight once her pups are dealt with. The Bloodaxe Worg Pups around her are not elite, so if they come along with her, area attacks clean them up quickly. Groups that can pull the pups first make the fight even simpler.

Fight her inside her lair, not out in the hallway. After she dies, Gizrul runs down the hall into the room, so the group should be standing, healed and ready, with shamans' totems planted inside where they won't draw him early. Casters and healers often stand on the higher ground at the back of the cave.

Small groups of stealthy classes, such as two rogues and a druid, can sneak through the spire to her and win the fight on their own, then stealth away again before Gizrul arrives.

Loot

Drop chances are from our database (patch 1.12).

The [[forever:item:22313]] belong to the Ironweave set added in patch 1.10, a cloth set for casters whose bonuses resist silence and interrupt effects. She also drops wolf meat for cooks.
