Gluth
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Gluth is a giant undead plague-dog and the third boss of the Abomination Wing (the Construct Quarter) of Naxxramas. He's always hungry, and during the fight zombies pour into his room from the grates in the walls. If they reach him, he eats them and heals. Every minute and a half he also brings everything in the room, players and zombies alike, down to a sliver of health with a single stomp, and the raid has to turn that moment to its own advantage.
Background
Gluth sits obediently in Naxxramas, waiting for orders from his masters. His appetite is so great that the living aren't enough for him. Warcraft Wiki records a rumor that [[forever:npc:15930]], one of the wights who guard Thaddius, feeds him an army of zombies every day, and that Gluth uses them to knit his own rotting flesh back together, recycling undead too weak to be useful in battle.
Raids meet him in the Construct Quarter between Grobbulus and Thaddius.

Abilities
- [[forever:spell:28375]]: about every 105 seconds, Gluth stomps the ground and reduces every player and every zombie in the room to 5% of their maximum health, no matter how much they had. It doesn't affect pets.
- Mortal Wound: a stacking wound that reduces the healing his tank receives, the same effect used by Kurinnaxx and Fankriss the Unyielding. He can't be taunted.
- Frenzy: every ten seconds or so he frenzies. A hunter's Tranquilizing Shot removes it.
- [[forever:spell:29685]]: a fear on everyone near him, about every 20 seconds.
- Devour Zombie: [[forever:npc:16360]] spawn every few seconds at three grates near the entrance. Each one that reaches Gluth is eaten and heals him by 5% of his health.
- Enrage: he enrages shortly after his third Decimate.
Strategy
The main tanks hold Gluth near the door, facing it, as far as possible from where the zombies come in. Two tanks trade him to keep Mortal Wound from stacking too high, and a Fear Ward on the main tank keeps him from running off and dragging Gluth into a zombie.
Meanwhile, the kiting team handles the zombies. Each hit leaves a stacking wound that makes the target take more physical damage, so they're kited rather than tanked. Raids often had a mage and a warrior in each corner, gathering zombies as they spawned and kiting them in circles with frost spells, traps and snares until the next Decimate.
When Decimate lands, every zombie drops to 5% health and turns toward Gluth. The tanks are healed up at once, and the whole raid switches to the zombies, grouping them up and killing them with area spells before any reach him. Then the kiting begins again, and the raid goes back to damaging Gluth.
The fight is a timer. He enrages soon after the third Decimate, so the raid needs to kill him in about five minutes while handling three zombie waves cleanly.

Loot
Gluth doesn't drop one fixed set of tokens. Instead, he can drop any of the shoulder, belt, bracer and boot tokens from the other bosses. From our database (patch 1.12):
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [[forever:item:22813]] | 20% |
| [[forever:item:23075]] | 20% |
| [[forever:item:22981]] | 20% |
| [[forever:item:22983]] | 20% |
| [[forever:item:22994]] | 20% |
| [[forever:item:22726]] | 30% |
| [[forever:item:22354]] | 8.3% |
| [[forever:item:22370]] | 8.3% |
| [[forever:item:22365]] | 8.3% |
The [[forever:item:22813]] is a two-handed sword with 98 attack power. The [[forever:item:23075]] is a healer's shield, and [[forever:item:22981]] a tank's necklace with block chance. See Tier Sets for the sets the tokens make. The [[forever:item:22726]] is a piece of Atiesh.
Quests
- [[forever:quest:9229]]: he has a small chance to drop [[forever:item:22708]], which starts a quest at Light's Hope Chapel.
- Tier 3: his tokens go into the same quests as the other bosses', such as [[forever:quest:9038]] for warrior shoulders or [[forever:quest:9101]] for mage belts.
