Hamhock

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

Hamhock is a two-headed ogre mage locked up in The Stockade, the prison under Stormwind City. He is one of the inmates who took part in the riot that handed the cell blocks to the prisoners. No quest asks for him and he carries no special loot, but his lightning and his spell to speed up his allies make him one of the harder fights in the prison.

Background

Ogres are huge, brutish giants found across the Eastern Kingdoms, many of them in the hills and forests south of Stormwind. Ogre magi are the rarer spellcasters among them, marked by their two heads. Orc warlocks created the first ogre magi during the Second War, and many ogres still serve as hired muscle for whoever pays.

The game tells nothing of how Hamhock came to the Stockade or what he did. He is simply one of the dangerous prisoners held there when the Defias Brotherhood inmates rose up, overpowered the guards and took the prison, and he now stands with the rioters against anyone the warden sends in. His name, a cut of pork, fits an ogre's appetite.

Abilities

  • Bloodlust: speeds up the attacks of an ally, or himself, for half a minute. A priest's Dispel Magic or a shaman's Purge can remove it.
  • Chain Lightning: a lightning bolt that jumps from his target to other nearby players, doing heavy nature damage for a level 28 creature.

Strategy

Hamhock has a cell in one of the Stockade's wings and, like the other bosses here, stands among ordinary inmates.

  • Clear the prisoners around him first. Bloodlust on a nearby inmate makes that inmate much more dangerous to whoever it is hitting.
  • Spread out so Chain Lightning can't jump through the whole group.
  • Interrupt his casts with Kick, Pummel, Shield Bash or Earth Shock.
  • Remove Bloodlust from him or his allies when possible.

He has less health than most Stockade bosses, so a group that controls his casts kills him quickly.

Loot

Hamhock has no loot table of his own in patch 1.12. He drops coins, cloth and food, and very rarely a random world drop such as a gem or a recipe.

Item Chance
[Silk Cloth] 24%
[Wool Cloth] 10%
[Moss Agate] 0.5%
[Heavy Bronze Lockbox] 0.4%

Quests

No quest in patch 1.12 asks for Hamhock. Groups usually kill him on the way to Bazil Thredd, the leader of the riot and the target of The Stockade Riots.

Later history

Hamhock was removed when Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) rebuilt the Stockade around a new riot with different leaders. The 1.12 version returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
