Hydromancer Velratha

Hydromancer Velratha is a Sandfury water priestess who keeps the sacred pool at the heart of Zul'Farrak, where the hydra Gahz'rilla sleeps. She is not a hard fight, but she is a busy one for questers: she holds the stolen Tiara of the Deep and the second of the two Mosh'aru tablets, so groups on either quest have to find her by the water.

Background

Velratha seems to be a leading member of the Sandfury priesthood, perhaps in charge of the rituals around the sacred pool and the hydra the trolls worship there. The game's Adventure Guide says that unlike most Sandfury she has traveled the world, gathering knowledge and artifacts that help her command the city's sacred waters. Her actions abroad have made her many enemies, but she thinks the power she has gained is worth it.

One of those enemies is Tabetha, a mage in Dustwallow Marsh. When Velratha heard of Tabetha's Tiara of the Deep, a piece of jewelry with real power, she sent agents to steal it while Tabetha was away.

Abilities

Velratha is a water caster and healer:

  • Water Bolt: frost damage on her current target.
  • Healing Wave: heals herself or an ally.

Both can be interrupted. The Warcraft Wiki also lists Crashing Wave, a typhoon that knocks players back, but that spell comes from the dungeon's Cataclysm rework.

Strategy

Velratha has only about 4,000 health, the least of any Zul'Farrak boss, so a group can kill her very quickly. The main thing is to stop her heals: keep someone ready to interrupt Healing Wave, or the fight drags on.

Her spot by the pool is also where Gahz'rilla is summoned. A group that brings the [Mallet of Zul'Farrak] to summon the hydra will deal with Velratha on the way.

Loot

From our database (patch 1.12):

Item Chance
[Tiara of the Deep] 100% (on the quest)
[Second Mosh'aru Tablet] 100% (on the quest)
[Troll Sweat] 22%
[Flask of Mojo] 6.8%

Velratha has no rare drops of her own. Her rewards come from the quests.

Quests

Later history

After her death, her sister Hydromancer Kulratha took her place at the pool. Kulratha appears in Cataclysm's Elemental Unrest event, where she tries to send Gahz'rilla against Stormwind and Thunder Bluff.
