Illyanna Ravenoak

Illyanna Ravenoak is an undead night elf huntress who prowls the balconies of Dire Maul West with her bear, Ferra. She was once Prince Tortheldrin's most trusted hunter, until she refused his order to kill her friends. The prince killed her and her bear for it and bound both their spirits to their bodies, so they now guard his halls as unwilling undead.

Background

According to the game's Adventure Guide, Illyanna and her faithful companion Ferra served Prince Tortheldrin as his most valued hunter. When the prince began killing his own people to keep more of the demon Immol'thar's power for the rest, he ordered Illyanna to execute her friends, and she refused. Tortheldrin killed her and the bear, then used his demonic power to tie their spirits to their bodies, condemning them to stay in Dire Maul as undead protectors.

Her story sits beside those of Magister Kalendris, who obeyed the prince's order without hesitation, and the many Shen'dralar whose ghosts still walk the west wing.

Abilities

Illyanna fights like a player hunter:

• Multi-Shot: physical damage to a player and others near them.
• Volley: arcane damage every second for 6 seconds over a wide area.
• Immolation Trap: a trap at her feet that burns whoever steps on it.
• Concussive Shot: slows a player, and sometimes stuns them instead.

Ferra fights in melee:

• Charge: rushes a player and stuns them briefly.
• Maul: heavy physical damage; Warcraft Wiki puts it at 500 to 800 per hit.

Strategy

Illyanna and Ferra patrol the southern end of the west wing, near the pylon balconies, so groups going after Immol'thar can often skip them. Groups that want the loot pull them together. Her shots are hardest on casters standing at range, and the usual answer is to fight in her "dead zone," close enough that she can't use her ranged attacks. The tank holds Illyanna while a second player handles the bear; a mage can polymorph Ferra to take her out of the fight until Illyanna is dead.

Loot

Force Imbued Gauntlets are plate, Padre's Trousers cloth and the Gauntlets of Accuracy mail. The Well Balanced Axe is a one-handed axe.

Trivia

• Ferra is a plagued bear, and patch 1.7 made her skinnable, a small bonus for leatherworkers in the group.
• Warcraft Wiki notes that Illyanna may be related to other night elves of the Ravenoak name, such as Huntress Ravenoak and Xerintha Ravenoak, though the game never says so.
• When Cataclysm remade Dire Maul for lower-level players in patch 4.0.3a, Illyanna and Ferra were lowered from level 60 along with the rest of the dungeon.
