Interrogator Vishas
Interrogator Vishas is the Scarlet Crusade's chief torturer in the Scarlet Monastery and the first boss of its Graveyard wing. He is a level 32 elite caster who keeps a dying Forsaken prisoner strapped to a table in his chamber, and freeing that prisoner's memory is the start of a short Horde quest. For most groups he is a quick fight and an introduction to the monastery.
Background
James Vishas is the lead interrogator of the Scarlet Crusade at the monastery. He takes pride in his work, which mostly means torturing captured undead, and he is known for his sadism and his high-pitched voice. His yells in the fight are demands for secrets.
His latest victim is Vorrel Sengutz, a Forsaken whom he has tortured for weeks. Vishas took Vorrel's wedding ring and gave it to his own wife, Nancy Vishas, who lives with Vishas's father in a cottage on the shore of Lordamere Lake in the Alterac Mountains. Once Vishas is dead, Vorrel says the monster got what he deserved, and he asks Horde players to get the ring back to his own wife.
Later lore gives Vishas a past. The Caverns of Time show "Little Jimmy" Vishas as a child in Southshore, playing at hunting monsters with Sally Whitemane and Renault Mograine. All three grew up to lead the Crusade in the monastery.

Abilities
- Immolate: sets a player on fire for initial damage and more over 15 seconds.
- Shadow Word: Pain: a Shadow damage-over-time spell on one player.
Neither spell is dangerous on its own, but together they keep steady damage on the group.
Strategy
Vishas waits in the Chamber of Atonement, the Graveyard's torture room, with Scarlet torturers around him.
- Clear the room's other Crusaders first. Fleeing humanoids in the Scarlet Monastery pull other groups easily, so finish off runners.
- Tank Vishas where the group can see him and burn him down. He has modest health for an elite.
- Priests and paladins can dispel Immolate and Shadow Word: Pain to ease the healer's load.
- Horde groups should leave Vorrel alone during the fight; he is friendly to the Horde and has the quest.
Loot
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Torturing Poker] | 50% |
| [Heart of Zeal] | 100% (on the quest) |
The Torturing Poker is a fast dagger, fitting for a torturer and a fair weapon for rogues in their early 30s.
Quests
- Vorrel's Revenge (Horde): Vorrel Sengutz lies tortured in Vishas's chamber. He asks players to recover his ring from Nancy Vishas in the Alterac Mountains, who drops [Vorrel's Wedding Ring], and take it to Monika Sengutz in Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills. Rewards are [Mantle of Woe], [Grimsteel Cape] or [Vorrel's Boots].
- Hearts of Zeal (Horde): Master Apothecary Faranell in Undercity wants 20 [Heart of Zeal]. They drop from Crusaders all over the monastery, Vishas included.

Trivia
- The names of Vishas and his wife Nancy appear to nod to the punk musician Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. In a scripted scene at the Vishas home, Nancy asks where "Sidney" is.
Later history
Mists of Pandaria (patch 5.0.4) rebuilt the monastery and removed Vishas. He reappeared as Dungeon Master Vishas, a fighter in the Brawler's Guild. The original encounter returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019, and retail brought the old wings back as the Scarlet Monastery of Old in patch 10.1.7.
