Jergosh the Invoker

Jergosh the Invoker is an orc warlock and one of the leaders of the Searing Blade, the demon-worshipping cult hiding in Ragefire Chasm under Orgrimmar. Thrall himself wants him dead, and killing him and Bazzalan is the goal of the last fight in the Warchief's Hidden Enemies quest chain.

Background

When Thrall freed the orcs from the internment camps and led them to Kalimdor, he turned the Horde away from the demon magic that had corrupted it. Not every orc agreed. Warlocks like Jergosh kept the old fel arts alive and gathered in cults such as the Burning Blade, which serve the Shadow Council and hope to return the orcs to the Burning Legion's service.

The Searing Blade is a branch of that cult hiding directly beneath Thrall's capital. Officially, the orc warlock Neeru Fireblade at the dungeon entrance names the felguard Taragaman the Hungerer as its leader. Thrall's own investigation reaches a different answer: the leaders who matter are a satyr named Bazzalan and a warlock, Jergosh, both of whom Neeru mentions to the player while taking them for a fellow cultist. Thrall sends the player to kill both of them without letting Neeru know who did it.

Abilities

Jergosh fights much like the Searing Blade Warlocks around him, without their voidwalker pets but with more health and harder spells.

  • Immolate: burns a target for fire damage up front and more over time. Healers should top up anyone he has immolated.
  • Curse of Weakness: a curse that lowers the physical damage the target deals. A mage or druid can remove it.

Strategy

Jergosh stands deep in the Searing Blade's part of the chasm, past Taragaman's cavern, with cultists and warlocks around him. Bazzalan waits on a ledge above, reached by dark ramps along the walls.

  • Clear the Searing Blade around him first, two or three at a time. The warlocks summon voidwalkers, so a careless pull gets big quickly.
  • Pull Jergosh once only he and his closest guards are left, then kill the guards after him.
  • He is a caster with low health for a boss. Interrupts and stuns keep his damage down, and the fight is usually over fast.

Loot

Jergosh drops one of three uncommon items, each at about one in three.

Item Chance
[Chanting Blade] (dagger) 33%
[Robe of Evocation] (cloth robe) 33%
[Cavedweller Bracers] (mail bracers) 33%

Quests

  • Hidden Enemies: Thrall in Orgrimmar sends the player into Ragefire Chasm to kill Bazzalan and Jergosh. It is the third step of a five-part chain. It begins with Hidden Enemies, in which the player takes a Burning Blade lieutenant's insignia to Thrall. In Hidden Enemies the player shows the insignia to Neeru Fireblade to see whether he takes them for a cult member. After the kills, Hidden Enemies and Hidden Enemies send the player back to Neeru and then to Thrall with what they learned. The step rewards reputation with Orgrimmar.

Later history

The original Jergosh encounter was removed when Mists of Pandaria (patch 5.0.4) rebuilt Ragefire Chasm. Jergosh returned in Legion as one of the surviving Shadow Council leaders. Gul'dan's followers send him to Caer Darrow to retrieve a book of Medivh's, and a warlock adventurer kills him there. The 1.12 encounter returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
