Lord Cobrahn

Lord Cobrahn is one of the four Fanglords who lead the Druids of the Fang in the Wailing Caverns. A night elf druid driven mad by Naralex's nightmare, he fights with a clawed hand and, when hurt, turns into a huge serpent. Groups kill him for his gem, which the Horde quest Leaders of the Fang needs.

Background

Cobrahn was one of the disciples who followed the druid Naralex into the caves beneath The Barrens. Naralex meant to use the Emerald Dream to heal the dry land above. Instead he was caught in the Emerald Nightmare, and its corruption twisted the caverns and most of the druids in them. The fallen druids call themselves the Druids of the Fang and dream of a world remade for serpents.

Cobrahn stands apart from his fellow Fanglords: he is larger than the other druids, keeps a claw on one hand, and surrounds himself with deviate snakes. Later Blizzard material says that before the Nightmare he was a druid named Jarlaxla, known in the Cenarion Circle for his skill with animal forms, a skill the corruption bent into a deadly serpent form. He warns intruders that they will never wake the dreamer.

Abilities

  • Cobrahn Serpent Form: late in the fight he becomes a giant snake. His attacks slow down but each one hits much harder.
  • Druid's Slumber: puts a player to sleep until they take damage.
  • Lightning Bolt: a nature damage bolt at range.
  • Healing Touch: a heal on himself. Interrupt it.
  • Poison: a nature poison that ticks for 30 seconds.

Strategy

Cobrahn waits in his own cave with a crowd of non-elite deviate snakes.

  • A mage or other area-damage class can clear the small snakes quickly; the rest of the group starts on Cobrahn.
  • Interrupt Healing Touch, and cure the poison on the tank.
  • When he takes serpent form, his damage per hit rises, so the healer should keep the tank topped up through the last part of the fight.

He is usually rated the easiest of the four Fanglords, and a group of five level 18 to 20 players should have no trouble.

Loot

Cobrahn always drops his gem and one of three items, including a piece of the Embrace of the Viper leather set.

Item Chance
[Gem of Cobrahn] 100% (quest)
[Cobrahn's Grasp] (mail belt) 33%
[Leggings of the Fang] (leather leggings) 33%
[Robe of the Moccasin] (cloth robe) 33%

Quests

With the other three Fanglords dead, the Disciple of Naralex at the entrance can lead the group to Naralex and try to wake him, which draws out Mutanus the Devourer.

Later history

Cobrahn remained in the Wailing Caverns after Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a), when the Leaders of the Fang quest and its gems were replaced. The 1.12 version returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
