Lord Vyletongue
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Lord Vyletongue is the satyr chieftain of the Putridus clan and the boss of the Wicked Grotto wing of Maraudon in Desolace. He came to the caves drawn by their corruption, made himself useful to Princess Theradras by breeding monsters for her, and spread his poison through the caverns' plant life. He carries the Celebrian Diamond, half of the scepter at the heart of Maraudon's main quest chain.
Background
Satyrs are night elves twisted by the Burning Legion into goat-legged demons. Vyletongue led the Putridus satyrs into Maraudon after hearing of the rot spreading from its depths. Theradras was wary of him at first. He won her trust by making her servants, among them the poison elemental Noxxion and the lasher Razorlash, and his clan settled in the purple-crystal side of the caves, where they choke the vines and trees that still grow there.
The centaur Cavindra, who waits in the outer caves, blames him for the state of the place: Vyletongue and his creation stole the two halves of her brother's scepter, and her brother, Celebras the Cursed, now wanders the caves out of his mind.

Abilities
Vyletongue fights from range with a bow and slips away when cornered.
- Shoot and Multi-Shot: arrows at one player, or a volley that strikes up to five.
- Smoke Bomb: stuns everyone near him for 4 seconds.
- Blink: teleports him 20 yards and breaks roots and snares.
Strategy
The danger in this fight is the guards. Four Putridus Shadowstalkers watch over him from stealth: two in the doorway and two in his hall.
- Pull the two doorway guards first. They can be fought without bringing Vyletongue.
- The two inside are linked to him and come with him. A warlock can enslave one of them and pull it out without the boss, a well-known Classic trick, but the guard must die while enslaved or it brings the boss and the other guard with it.
- Once the boss is engaged, close in on him quickly so he can't shoot. Expect him to Blink away and Smoke Bomb the melee; the tank should follow and pick him back up.

Loot
Vyletongue always drops the [Celebrian Diamond] for Legends of Maraudon, and usually a [Theradric Crystal Carving]. His three blue items each drop about a third of the time in our data.
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Satyr's Lash] | 33% |
| [Infernal Trickster Leggings] | 33% |
| [Satyrmane Sash] | 33% |
| [Celebrian Diamond] | 100% |
| [Theradric Crystal Carving] | 80% |
Satyr's Lash is a dagger that can fire a Shadow Bolt when it hits, and the Infernal Trickster Leggings are mail with a bonus to bow skill, a natural fit for a hunter.
Quests
- Legends of Maraudon: Cavindra asks for the Celebrian Diamond from Vyletongue and the Celebrian Rod from Noxxion. Together they become the [Scepter of Celebras] in The Scepter of Celebras.
- Vyletongue Corruption (Horde, from Vark Battlescar) and Vyletongue Corruption (Alliance, from Talendria): fill a vial at the orange crystal pool and use it on corrupted Vylestem Vines to draw out and kill the Noxious Scions they hide. The quest is named for him, though he doesn't need to die for it.
- Twisted Evils: his Theradric Crystal Carvings count for Willow.

Later history
In Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) his level dropped to 35, and he became the last boss of the Wicked Grotto wing in the Dungeon Finder. Patch 7.0.3 gave him the newer satyr model.
