Ogom the Wretched

This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.

Ogom the Wretched is the undead troll bodyguard of Jammal'an the Prophet, leader of the Atal'ai in the Sunken Temple. He never fights alone: he stands at his master's side in the Lair of the Chosen and joins as soon as Jammal'an is attacked. With little health and painful shadow magic, he is usually the first of the pair to die.

Background

The Atal'ai priests use dark magic to raise their dead, and many of the temple's defenders are undead trolls. Ogom is the most trusted of them. The Dungeon Journal added in Cataclysm calls him Jammal'an's undead bodyguard, standing ready with the prophet against anyone who would stop Hakkar's return. He has no story of his own beyond that.

Warcraft Wiki describes him as part warlock and part warrior: he wears a curved blade but fights mostly with shadow spells.

Abilities

  • Shadow Bolt: a bolt of shadow at a player. It can be interrupted.
  • Shadow Word: Pain: shadow damage every 3 seconds for 15 seconds.
  • Curse of Weakness: lowers a player's physical damage.

Strategy

Ogom is fought together with Jammal'an, so see that article for the whole encounter. For Ogom himself:

  • Most groups kill him first. His Shadow Bolts hit harder than Jammal'an's melee, and with only 5,886 health in our data he goes down quickly to a level 50 group.
  • If he isn't the first target, give him to an off-tank so he doesn't roam the room casting at the healer.
  • Interrupt his Shadow Bolts with Kick, Pummel, Counterspell or Earth Shock, and have a mage or druid remove his curse.
  • Interrupt Jammal'an's heals while you work on Ogom, since the prophet will heal his bodyguard.

Loot

Ogom's table holds three green (uncommon) one-handed weapons, each dropping about a third of the time in our data. He also often drops a [Fetish of Hakkar].

Item Chance
[Eater of the Dead] 33%
[Blade of the Wretched] 33%
[Fist of the Damned] 33%
[Fetish of Hakkar] 80%

All three need level 49, and each has its own effect. The axe [Eater of the Dead] adds attack power against undead, a fitting touch on an undead boss. The sword [Blade of the Wretched] can strike the target with Corruption, and the mace [Fist of the Damned] can steal life on a hit. They are green items rather than blue, so most groups treat Ogom as a step on the way to the Shade rather than a reason to visit.

Quests

No quest asks for Ogom by name, but his [Fetish of Hakkar] counts toward the Horde quest The Temple of Atal'Hakkar. Killing him alongside Jammal'an is part of every run toward the Shade of Eranikus.

Later history

Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) cut down the Sunken Temple, but Jammal'an and Ogom remained as one of its encounters.
