Shadowpriest Sezz'ziz
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Shadowpriest Sezz'ziz is a Sandfury priest who leads the assault on the pyramid in Zul'Farrak together with the undead Nekrum Gutchewer. He arrives at the end of the dungeon's famous stair fight, when the group has already beaten back wave after wave of trolls, and he heals, fears and casts shadow bolts. He has one of the better loot tables in the dungeon, with four rare items.
Background
Sezz'ziz appears to be an important religious figure among the Sandfury. According to the game's Adventure Guide, he and Nekrum have been gathering sacrifices for the hydra Gahz'rilla, who sleeps at the city's heart, and their followers will do anything to see the ritual through. When outsiders free the prisoners held at the top of the pyramid, he and Nekrum lead the trolls who storm the stairs.

The pyramid event
The fight starts when players use the [Executioner's Key], taken from the Sandfury Executioner (Sandfury Executioner), to free Sergeant Bly (Sergeant Bly) and his band of adventurers from their cages atop the pyramid. Sandfury trolls then charge up the stairs in waves, and Sezz'ziz and Nekrum Gutchewer come last. Neither of them is present until the event triggers, which is why our data lists no normal spawn for them.
After they fall, the goblin Weegli Blastfuse blows open the door to the inner city, where Chief Ukorz Sandscalp and Ruuzlu wait. Bly and most of his crew then turn on the group.
Abilities
- Shadow Bolt: a bolt of shadow damage.
- Psychic Scream: sends up to five nearby players running in fear for a few seconds.
- Renew and Heal: heals for himself and his allies.
Strategy
Kill Sezz'ziz before Nekrum. His heals can undo a lot of the group's work, so interrupt Heal whenever he starts it and dispel Renew if possible. Psychic Scream can break the group's position at the top of the stairs, scattering players into the last of the trolls; a dwarf priest's Fear Ward, a warrior's Berserker Rage or a Tremor Totem from a Horde shaman helps. Casters should stay out of the scream's range.
Many groups hold a corner at the top of the pyramid during the waves and use area damage, keeping mana and cooldowns in reserve for when the two leaders arrive.

Loot
From our database (patch 1.12):

The Bad Mojo Mask is a cloth helm with Intellect and up to 14 extra shadow damage, a natural fit for shadow priests and warlocks. The Jinxed Hoodoo Skin and Jinxed Hoodoo Kilt are a leather chest and legs with Spirit, and the Diabolic Skiver is a polearm that can strike a fatal wound for extra damage.
Quests
- Divino-matic Rod: Chief Engineer Bilgewhizzle (Chief Engineer Bilgewhizzle) in Gadgetzan wants the divining rod Sergeant Bly stole. To get it, players have to free Bly, survive the pyramid event that ends with Sezz'ziz, and then fight Bly.
