Sneed's Shredder
This is revision 1, from Oct 29, 2026 04:23. See the current page.
Sneed's Shredder is a goblin lumber machine on two legs, piloted by Sneed, the lumbermaster of The Deadmines. It is really two fights in one: once the shredder breaks, Sneed jumps out of the wreck and keeps fighting on foot. The machine carries a power supply that the gnomes of Stormwind want for their war on the troggs of Gnomeregan.
Background
The Defias Brotherhood, the stonemasons turned outlaws under Edwin VanCleef, are building a warship in a hidden cove beneath Westfall. A ship needs timber, and VanCleef hired goblins to supply it. Sneed, a goblin lumbermaster, runs the lumber yard deep in the mine, where goblin woodcarvers saw logs into planks and masts for the juggernaut.
Shredders are the goblins' favorite logging machines: armored walkers with saw blades for hands and a pilot in an open cab. Sneed fights from his, and the machine's engine is valuable enough on its own that a gnome in Stormwind City sends adventurers after it.

Abilities
The shredder:
- Terrify: sends a player running in fear for a few seconds. In a room still full of goblins, that can pull a second group into the fight.
- Distracting Pain: slows a target's spellcasting.
- Eject Sneed: when the machine is destroyed, Sneed is thrown out of the cockpit and joins the fight.
Sneed himself is a melee fighter without special abilities, but he is still an elite and hits hard.
Strategy
Sneed's Shredder works in the lumber yard past Rhahk'Zor and Miner Johnson's tunnels. The room is crowded with Goblin Woodcarvers and other goblin workers.
- Clear as many of the goblins as possible before pulling the shredder. Terrify can send a player running into anything left standing.
- Fight the shredder away from uncleared packs and keep the healer out of range of a feared player's path.
- When the shredder falls, Sneed jumps out. Don't start looting the machine yet: he is a full second fight and still dangerous.
- After Sneed dies, both he and the machine have loot.
Loot
The shredder and Sneed each have their own drops.
| Item | Dropped by | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| [Gnoam Sprecklesprocket] | Shredder | 100% (quest) |
| [Buzzer Blade] (dagger) | Shredder | 90% |
| [Buzz Saw] (one-hand sword) | Shredder | 10% |
| [Gold-flecked Gloves] (cloth gloves) | Sneed | 65% |
| [Taskmaster Axe] (two-hand axe) | Sneed | 35% |
Taskmaster Axe, Sneed's own weapon, is a rare two-handed axe with Stamina and Spirit.
Quests
- Underground Assault: Shoni the Shilent, a gnome in Stormwind, explains that troggs have overrun Gnomeregan and the gnomes need a strong power source to drive their digging machines through to the city. The shredder's power supply, the Gnoam Sprecklesprocket, is just the thing. Rewards: [Polar Gauntlets] or [Sable Wand].

Trivia
- Sneed wears a topknot while sitting in the shredder but is bald once he climbs out.
- Hearthstone's Goblins vs Gnomes set includes a card called Sneed's Old Shredder, whose flavor text jokes that the machine was sold at auction after Sneed's defeat.
Later history
Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) removed the shredder fight when it rebuilt the Deadmines. The 1.12 version returned with World of Warcraft Classic in 2019.
