Spawn of Hakkar
The Spawn of Hakkar are elite winged serpents in the Sunken Temple, creatures of the blood god Hakkar the Soulflayer kept by his Atal'ai priests. They aren't true bosses: there are two of them, they have no encounter of their own, and they fight like any other strong monster. But each one has its own small loot table with a good blue (rare) item on it, which is why dungeon guides list them alongside the bosses.
Background
Hakkar the Soulflayer is the troll god of blood, and his favored form is a great feathered serpent with wings. The trolls who serve him keep winged serpents as his children and guardians. In the Sunken Temple, the Atal'ai priests are trying to bring their god back into the world, and the Spawn of Hakkar are among the creatures that serve them. Their red and gold coloring matches Hakkar's own.
Our data places two of them in the temple. The game says nothing more about them individually; they are a type of monster, not named characters.

Abilities
- Acid of Hakkar: a poison that deals Nature damage every 2 seconds for a full minute.
Beyond that they bite like any elite of their level. With 6,876 health in our data they go down much faster than the temple's real bosses.
Strategy
There's little to plan for with these serpents.
- Pull each one on its own; don't let it join a pack of trolls.
- Cure Acid of Hakkar if you can. A shaman's Cure Poison or a druid's Abolish Poison saves the healer a minute of steady damage. Paladins can cleanse it too.
Because they share the temple with far more dangerous enemies, most groups kill them as part of the normal clear rather than seeking them out.
Loot
The Spawn of Hakkar drop the [Slitherscale Boots] almost half the time in our data, a fairly reliable source of leather boots with Stamina and Spirit. They also drop the green [Wingveil Cloak], a Spirit cloak, about a quarter of the time (both items need level 47), plus a wide range of world drops, recipes and gems at very low rates.
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| [Slitherscale Boots] | 47% |
| [Wingveil Cloak] | 26% |
| [Soulcatcher Halo] | under 0.1% |
| [Winter's Bite] | under 0.1% |
| [Stinging Bow] | under 0.1% |
Quests
No quest asks for the Spawn of Hakkar.
Later history
Cataclysm (patch 4.0.3a) removed them from the temple. Hakkar's serpents went on to appear elsewhere, most famously as the Sons of Hakkar in Zul'Gurub, the raid where the god finally takes physical form.
